Anybody who actually has been watching Baskonia games for years should know that Ivanovic methodology and basket proposal is very far from resembling D'Antoni's run & gun, and even more his way of coaching a team day to day. If you have been watching Baskonia games for years you should know about typical Baskonia big men's game: Victor Alexander-Oberto-Scola, Oberto-Tomasevic-Scola, Wolkowyski-Griffith-Scola, Scola-Deivid, Scola-Splitter... Actually, due to the fame that his teams gained in this matter, he has come to do clinics about game between big men (example). Dusko's teams have consistently played very balanced basketball, with little room for bad shots. But hey, Dusko Ivanovic = the european D'Antoni, like 2 drops of water. Yeah, because in Europe no coach likes Scola on his team... BTW, Tomasevic, Griffith, Nocioni, Oberto, Prigioni, Splitter... are all of them well known terrible defensive players in European basketball. Trully you do very well dogmatizing in all your points, because you nail them all, as usual.
And now back to reality and to the facts. http://www.euroleague.net/competition/teams/showteamstats?clubcode=BAS A team that takes 23.4 3 point shots per game, in 40 minute games, is "nothing like a D'Antoni team".
The Magic have led the league in 3s attempted the last 2 years and I don't see many similarities between Van Gundy and D'Antoni. While its true that with Teletovic playing PF (and being now their best scorer) they have increased 3pt attempts. Anyway, it's obvious that Dusko Ivanovic is the white D'Antoni here in Europe, everybody knows it. -And that's a sample of 5 games, in the Spanish league there are right now 7 teams (more than one third of teams in the league) shooting more 3s than them.- Please, try to read the interview to Nocioni to know a little bit better the coach.
I know. I he completely ignores the interview I posted of Ivanovic. 3pt shooting rate doesn't mean anything about your basketball philosophy, especially when it changes with players. and it definitely doesn't mean anything about your defensive philosophy. Only an idiot would say that. Bobby Knight and Coach K doubled their 3 pt shooting rates in certain years, with certain players. The more OHMSS talks about coaches and strategy, the more I know he is completely full of ****. It took me one month here in Europe to ask around about who the best coaches were and to get videos of past games from friends. Ivanovic was consistently mentioned as a coach to follow and study, and his teams are a joy the watch...although I'm not a big fan of his strict style sometimes. OHMSS is a clearly has zero clue about this coach.
So I watched the Baskonia game and say them take 33 three point shots in a 40 minute game, and never play defense basically the entire game. Oh and their entire offense consisted of pick and roll, 3 point shot, pick and roll, 3 point shot. You are so right, nothing at all near anything like a D'Antoni team.
This is a desparate attempt by you to save face. Several Europeans are calling your bullsht. And ... and ... zou are completetlz wrong about me never seeing Baskonia...unlike zou I live in Europe. This is the onlz basketball I get. Me and mz german friends laugh at zou and zour Arkansas bullst. We have viewing parties twice a week to watch EU basketball. Zou have no idea what zou are talking about. And notice how mz Ys are tzped as Zs. Thatäs because Iäm on a german kezboard at mz friends house watching EU basketball. How u u are in over zour head and we all know zou are not verz bright about basketball. zou are like just a stat junkie at best, with no abilitz to understand the game. next
You are trolling. I have provided ample statistical evidence and evidence of all the players he covets (which play no defense) to prove you wrong. Nice try though.
Yes. http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/showgame?gamecode=63 The "anti Dantoni's" took a mere 33 point shots.
I tried to watch the baskonia game but the telegraph wasn't working that day, so I'll have to wait for the mail train to see the result.
Dragic is playing right now and maybe he plays some more games until new CBA is oficcially signed. Today he has started as SG and has scored 7 points in the 1st quarter. Is impossible to watch the game... Because I don't want to look like someone who has some kind of agenda against you, I have to say that I watched the game yesterday and they really played bad, and seems like they are often playing this bad offensively this season. Like you say, that kind of not too elaborated offense with too many bad shots to what Dusko's teams tend to do (something similar to Popovich-Spurs case of last year?). Still you can't never compare Dusko Ivanovic with a coach like D'Antoni... is absurd, they are and have always been like night and day, very different in all the way of coaching, and I was referring to this when I talked about Dragic signing. He arrives to a team coached by a singular coach, actually a very difficult coach to manage with for every player. You can easily have problems with him, or you can also deal him and perform very well. Because actually there are a lot of good players who have improved while being coached by him, they suffered him day to day, but they improved (Scola can be a very good example). BTW, I watched the game of Madrid @ Zaragoza and both PGs played good. Madrid dominated the game, Ibaka dominated the boards. Sergio played good defense and overall had a correct game only scoring one basket. Last year he was the socrer, this year the team has fortunately more and better scorers; he's only attempting like 7 shots per game.
Ivanovic is such a great coach that Splitter openly stated he would never in his life play under him again.
