Orton would not win us any games, nor would he lose us any games. Schaub-lite ha. You'd hope we could test run Leinart before having to make this decision.
I would rather have Orton than Leinart. Leinart career stats: CMP% 57.1% TD 14 INT 20 RAT 70.8 Orton: CMP% 58.1 TD 79 INT 55 RAT 79.4
I don't look at it as Leinart vs Orton....I look at it as Yates vs Orton. Leinart should be fine, he's comfortable with the team and vice versa. But if he were to get hurt? Does anyone want to see a back rounds rookie come in having next to no snaps with the first stringers? Orton would be a fantastic insurance policy. No doubt, Chicago will have the most interest in him, though.
So the Texans have enough capspace to claim him? If the Texans fail to get him because they splurged in FA and now lack the funds, I can understand. But if his cap number is low enough for the Texans to fit him, why not? It's not as if we're waiting out for an even bigger impact player to go through the waiver wire later in the season. Orton is a crappy QB. But at least he's legit enough to start in the NFL. And while he doesn't know the offense, he should be experienced enough to at least be able to learn Kubiak's offense somewhat effectively. Certainly would be better than Yates.
But what if Leinart comes out and absolutely sucks? We haven't even seen this guy play for the Texans during the regular season, and when he played in the preseason he didn't look that good. I would certainly like to have Orton as an insurance policy.
I believe not, it's basically a trade we would have to give Denver draft compensation as well I believe. Atleast that's how the waiver system works in MLB
Don't see him falling to us when there are too many teams desperate for a QB. He's Chiefs bound already. If he does, I don't see the harm if the Texans have enough room under the cap and they don't plan on signing anyone else.
There isn't any compensation when a player is waived only if he is signed as a free agent. If he's claimed off the waiver, a team will pay the $1.9 million he is owed the rest of the season. If he isn't claimed then he becomes a free agent and is able to choose a team and negotiate a contract. With that said I have a feeling he'll end up in Chicago, would have said Miami but Matt Moore has been decent.
orton is overrated. he puts up decent numbers that mean nothing and does nothing to help a team win. we've been all in and still are
