well, there really isn't one other than jeff fisher is stupid or jeff fisher didn't/doesn't like vince. there were 3 seasons where the titans had mid-season qb switches, 2 where kerry collins was the starter and replaced by vince (rookie season, 4th season), and one where vince was replaced (last year). in those 3 seasons, vince went 20-11. in the other games, almost all started by collins, the titans went 2-15. i'm afraid in this situation, "jeff fisher knew what he was doing by playing collins over vince" isn't really an option because you can't really justify "knowing what you're doing" when your decisions result in a winning percentage of 11.8% vs a winning percentage of 64.5% for the option you resisted at all costs (including getting fired).
Not to derail the thread too much, but thank you for saying this. I always thought Ware got completely screwed by the Lions and Fontes (who was a mediocre coach and lousy developer of talent). By the time he was able to escape Detroit, his skill set was trashed and he had no chance.
I don't rembmer following it too much at the time, but viewing it in retrospect, it seems like Ware got remarkably few attempts for a high-round draft pick QB - 161 passes in 4 years....that's fewer than Tim Tebow has in his season & a half so far and way fewer than most QB's go thru in a full season. It's also of course possible that he was so awful in practice that he didn't even merit being put in the game.
Maybe its because Fisher was an overrated coach that underachieved in every season other the one season where they need a "miracle" to get passed the first round.
That very well could be - I have no idea where the proper blame/fault lies in that whole mess. But if true and he's been able to do as well as he has without working hard, it makes you wonder what he could do if some coach could get the most out of him.
he certainly has not yet even reached his talent potential. But to a certain point, you have to stop blaming coaches and look at the player.
Absolutely - I don't blame teams at all for staying away from Vince. I actually thought a backup job at Philly was probably the best thing for him for this year, because he gets to learn from one of the best QB gurus in the NFL, and you know Vick is going to miss games here and there to let Vince show what he can do. He needs to do the work to get a good recommendation from Reid as he tries to go out and find a starting job next year. If a 2nd coach says he's a lazy dumbass, he's probably done.
Me3. I'm ready to sign VY and bring him to H-Town next season. Seen enough of Leinart today to know he's always going to be limited. Just too slow to avoid the big hits. We need a second QB. Sign VY and then the next time Schaub goes down, we got money.
