Arkansas is going to lose to LSU next week. If they keep it close, I wonder how far they will fall.

Baylor beating TCU and OU feels good. Beating Tech and Texas to finish the season should set up for a nice bowl game. I think it's clear that we're better than 20, 21. We should have taken care of Kansas State bc we could be around 10 right now.

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas football program is in mourning after the death of freshman tight end Garrett Uekman.

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at Washington Regional Medical Center at 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, according to the University of Arkansas, after being found “unconscious and unresponsive” in his room at the Northwest Quad residence hall at approximately 11:15 a.m. The exact cause of death was not known Sunday night, but University of Arkansas Police Department Lt. Matt Mills said there were no suspicious circumstances.

“Garrett Uekman was a special member of our family, and we are all saddened by his passing,” Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement. “His loss is a terrible shock, and it makes you realize how precious life is. Garrett was a great teammate and loved being a Razorback. My sympathies are with his entire family during this incredibly trying time, and I share in their grief.

“Our team will honor and show our respect to Garrett.”

Petrino and Arkansas athletic director also will address the media regarding Uekman’s death later tonight.

“Garrett’s loss is a terrible shock for the University of Arkansas and the Razorback program,” Long said in the university statement. “Our sincere condolences go out to his family and to all of those who knew him. He will be missed by many friends, teammates and others throughout campus. The well-being of our student-athletes is at the very core of our mission and when a tragedy like this happens it is a tremendous loss to the entire campus community. We will work with various campus services to provide support for the Uekman family, our student-athletes, coaches and staff during this difficult time.”

Uekman, a Little Rock native, played in nine of Arkansas’ 11 games this season. It included the Razorbacks’ 44-17 win against Mississippi State in his hometown on Saturday afternoon.

He was last seen playing video games by a roommate at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday and “appeared to be in good health,” according to Arkansas. Another roommate found him unconscious an hour later.

Emergency services were called at 11:17 a.m., and first responders were on the scene at 11:20. Uekman was in cardiac arrest when responders arrived and he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:10 p.m. at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Uekman’s body will be transported to Little Rock to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Uekman’s family released a statement saying their son was “living his dream” of attending Arkansas and playing for the Razorbacks.

“He loved his school, his coaches, and his teammates and classmates, and was an influence and inspiration to so many people,” the Uekman family statement read. “We ask for your love and prayers for Garrett, our family and his friends as we all cope with this heavy and painful loss. Meanwhile, we ask for respect and privacy during this time of grief.”

Arkansas’ players were called into a team meeting and told of Uekman’s death Sunday afternoon.

Soon after, players congregated outside the Broyles Center. Several were visibly distraught, crying and embracing one another after the loss of their teammate and friend. Several others took to Twitter after the meeting and share their emotions.

“RIP Garrett..I am thankful for the opportunity to have you in my life! I will always remember the times we had together. I love you buddy!” senior guard Grant Cook said via Twitter.

“Garrett Uekman rest in peace my brother Watch over us as we continue to chase the dream u started with us. I love u and will forever miss u,” added Arkansas running back Knile Davis.

News of Uekman’s death also spread to his hometown of Little Rock, where he was a football and basketball standout at Little Rock Catholic High.

Uekman was coached at Little Rock Catholic by Ellis “Scooter” Register, who is now at Little Rock Central.

Register said he heard the news from Arkansas running backs coach Tim Horton, who sent a text message Sunday and told him there was an emergency. Upon learning of Uekman’s death, Register said he was stunned and “didn’t get out of my chair for 30 minutes.”

“It just goes to show you how really fragile life is,” Register said. “We can’t take anything for granted. He was so young, vibrant and strong. He had his whole future in front of him.”

Little Rock Catholic coach David Estes, who also was on staff when Uekman played at the school, attended the Mississippi State game on Saturday and said he was “beaming ear to ear with pride” watching the tight end play. Estes said it was hard to cope with the fact Uekman was gone less than 24 hours later.

“It’s devastating to the Catholic High school family, his family, the city of Little Rock and the entire state of Arkansas,” Estes said. “It’s just devastating. I don’t know how else to put it. …

    “It’s just a complete tragedy.”

Looks like Oklahoma State is still in this thing if voters have 2nd thoughts about a rematch. They are solidly #2 in the computers but need help in the polls. They'll jump Arkansas if they lose, and I imagine they'd gain a lot of ground or pass VaTech/Stanford if they can dominate Oklahoma. Voters might like the idea of testing LSU's defense with a top 5 offense as well. It will help that Okie State will be playing OU on the last weekend in a fake Big 12 Title Game, while Alabama and Stanford will be sitting at home as non-champions of their conferences.

I could not disagree more. Oklahoma State lost to a pathetic Iowa State team and they don't deserve to be in the national championship game. The national Championship game should be the two best teams playing each other, regardless if it's a rematch or not. They had there chance. They controlled their own destiny and just had to beat Iowa State and Oklahoma to make it to the BCS Game. There Defense isn't good enough to stop LSU and LSU's defense is good enough to stop there offense. It would be a joke. I'd rather see Houston play LSU if there wasn't a rematch but Oklahoma State has nobody to blame but themselves.

    Oh yeah. Roll Damn Tide.

Funny, that looks really familiar for some reason.

Oh yeah, that's right... Alabama had their chance, at home, and lost.

OSU vs. LSU is a supremely compelling matchup compared to another SEC kicker competition.

I'm not arguing the merits of it - just what the BCS numbers say. OkieState is in much better position than any of the other 1-loss non-SEC teams at this point.

The whole problem with this statement is that it's all conjecture. We already saw Alabama get its shot, at home, against LSU. So we know that, on at least one given Saturday, Alabama wasn't good enough. We don't know if Oklahoma State is. Assuming they beat OU, we know that they are clearly the best team in one of the two best conferences in the country. We don't know whether the Big12 or SEC is a better conference this year - and it would provide viewers something different than they've already seen.

Whether voters will decide they don't want a rematch is up in the air right now - lots of goofy things happen to votes during the last couple of weeks of the season. We saw this same scenario with Michigan and Ohio State in 2006 where they were ranked #1 and #2 after a really close game and there was talk about a rematch between the two clearly best teams in the country. Voters decided against it and moved Michigan down in the last couple of weeks to prevent the rematch. Then Ohio State got blown out by Florida in the national title game while Michigan got dominated by USC in the Rose Bowl - turned out the conference just wasn't as good as everyone thought.

Lost by three. In OT. Against the number 1 ranked team in the nation.

They didn't lose to a 5-4 (2-4) team in the Big 12. If Alabama takes care of business against Auburn on Friday then there's no way that another team would pass them. I was more worried about Oregon passing us because if they won then they'd have that one extra game for the pac 12 champ. game but now that they lost there second game there's no way that will happen.

As much as people may hate seeing a rematch, these are the two best teams and that's why they should both play in the National Championship game.

I really don't want to see a LSU v. Bama rematch. SEC games are usually boring to watch. I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but I'm tired of having the polls decide who the best team is; let the teams decide on the field in a playoff.

Yeah, they surprisingly have a decent shot. They're still ahead of Alabama in the computers, and you'd think that margin would only grow if they beat Oklahoma and Bama beats Auburn. If they dominate OU on a big stage, it's been proven in the past that plenty of voters are open to manipulating their ballots in order to avoid a rematch. They probably wouldn't pass Alabama, but if they came close, the computers could push them over the top.

I should note that I'm not a fan of this - I think Alabama is clearly more deserving. But it's definitely a very real possibility after looking at the numbers.

Exactly - they are 1.09 behind right now. The computer changes would make up 0.2, so they would need to make up 0.89 in the polls. They don't need to jump Alabama at all - they just need to be a consensus #3 with a mix of #2 votes in there. It would also be helpful if some west coast voters put Alabama at #4 behind Stanford. They do need some help - an impressive win over OU, a close Alabama win over Auburn, and some media talk about not wanting a rematch - but it's definitely possible.
