If the Texans want any realistic shot at a superbowl, of course they do it. Favre is still better than half the QBs in the league, and he is ONE BIZZILLION TIMES better than anyone on the Texan's roster...
Again, Brett Favre is one biggizzillion times better than any healthy QB on the Texans roster, homers.
Speaking from a neutral standpoint, I'd probably agree. Unfortunately, for reasons already mentioned, it's not that easy. Favre is, of course, a huge diva. And to introduce a huge diva into a new system, mid-season with all the pressure he would be facing isn't exactly a safe bet. Couple that with his natural decline due to age and how fragile he looked last year, I won't blame the Texans for passing on him. That said, I pray for your sake (as long as you aren't playing my boys) that Leinart has had some sort of epiphany since the last time I saw him. As it stands, he's about a half-step up from Tebow in my book of awful NFL QB's. Hopefully, for your sake that's not the case anymore.
At this point in their respective careers, I'd take Lionheart over Favre right now. Favre has questionable health and is more about Me, Myself and I rather than buy into the team concept. e.i his tenure with the Vikings.
Favre's last season = 60.6 completion percentage, 7.0 YPC, 11 TD, 19 INT, 69.9 QB rating. That's with Adrian Peterson in the backfield. Oh, and he's 42 now. Yeah, I think I might take my chances with Matt Leinart.
The reason Favre won't get signed is the same reason why T.O. is in pseudo-retirement. Talent-wise, Favre and T.O. are in an entirely difference stratosphere than the rest of their FA competition. T.O. is still productive and Favre is two years removed from an MVP caliber season. But as we all know, both players carry enormous baggage, they're diva's and they're injury prone. Just because a player is more talented doesn't make it the right move.
Even from a talent standpoint, I'd take Leinart over Favre You do realize Favre sucked last year right? He's not worth it.
Well, that Brad Childress led furry turd was a trainwreck from top to bottom. But yeah, he stunk. He was also an MVP candidate the year before in the role of a game manager - which is what you guys need. Regardless, we are in agreement that it can't and it won't happen. I was only making the point that the player with the most talent isn't always the best option - which is the case here (and with the T.O. example).
I don't think the T.O. example is really pertinent. You've gotta think a team like Seattle or Minnesota would have taken a flier on him if the talent was still there. By all accounts however, he struggled through that individual workout he hosted, and his leg is badly atrophied from the ACL surgery injury he had. I think his days in the NFL are over not because of his attitude, but because of his health.
I'm not his agent or his trainer so I can't vouch for this personally, but you could be right. I saw the video of his workout. He can still move around. Plus, you can't teach size at the WR position. This dude could still make an impact, IMO. But regardless, there's a reason why a team like the Steelers went out and signed a guy like Jericho Cotchery instead of a more talented veteran with baggage like T.O. - and that's all I'm saying.
