I see so many positives without the NBA. You guys will not waste your precious time and money watching a truly sucky game, your collective IQs will rise tenfold, no more annoying Chinese posters( I know the departure of Yao took most of them away, but there is still a pocket of them left here and there).
Players might not start their own league, but they could leave for other leagues and never come back. They won't be limited to 50% BRI in Europe. They could get back what they lost and ask for 57% or even add 3% for an extra incentive. Adam Morrison Deron Williams Andrei Kirilenko Danilo Gallinari
If a deal isn't made by Thanksgiving, Nov. 25th, I don't think we will see a season. The latest CBS article stated that according to some inside sources, the players and owners are gonna try one more time to get a deal done but the calender isn't on their side. Stern wants NBA on Christmas and it takes a month from when a deal gets done to start the season. He doesn't want a 50 game season either.
I can't believe neither side has called the other. I guess the owners really are prepared to lose a season... DD
Yep. Again, I think the fact that so many of these guys are NHL guys never boded well for the NBA players. Everyone told them their league would collapse if they missed a season. They took a hit in the short term, but now franchises are profitable and expenses are controlled.
DD, Doesn't even matter if the owners are falling the hardliners right now or not. After giving an ultimatum like they did with essentially a 6 day grace period, you cannot make the first move. It would imply they view their latest method was wrong. Also, I really don't understand why everyone is so caught up in the rhetoric about "There will not be a season less than 70 games" or if "No games on Christmas, season is lost." Those are both probably very important to Stern, but not necessarily as important to the players or owners that without either of those they will absolutely be no season. If anything, Stern has shown that the owners have more control over him than he has over the owners. Not saying there will be a season, but taking those statements are infallible truths is naive given how many times positions have changed on both sides the cracks in Stern's armor.
Since the players are taking the owners to court, wouldn't it be a mistake for them to contact the owners? The ball is in their court.
The ball is in nobodies court, if they want to get a deal done they need to talk, doesn't matter who picks up the phone. DD
I've been mass tweeting Ron Artest about the lockout and he reposted something I put I feel special haha. TheFakeCoriC Cori Cornwell @ @MettaWorldPeace Why did Billy Hunter cross the road? To get back to his hotel after another wasted day negotiating with no progress MettaWorldPeace Metta WorldPeace Lmao Let's joke on everyone I'm retweeting 9 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply
Why would it be in the owners court? They made their last offer, the union rejected it and responded with a lawsuit. If talks are to happen, the union (i.e, Boies) will initiate them. The question to ask is if the union is boxed in by it's own strategy.
Boies stated yesterday that the owners have 3 weeks to respond in court to the petition or they default. Deadline for that is Dec 5th. So, they will at least have to respond in court. Besides, didn't Stern say he doesn't want to talk to the player's lawyers? just saying
Yes they will, but Boies has made it clear the union expected conversations before then. It's as if the union did this thinking it would actually prod (scare) the owners. Seems like another gross miscalculation made by Billy Hunter.
?? I would not question Boies' strategy. They are surely being advised by him. I don't understand what you consider to be a gross miscalculation.
It's in the owners court because the union is attempting to litigate, based on the owners not negotiating in good faith. It's kind of against their point if they file a suit then go make contact to negotiate again....when the premise behind their case is they stopped negotiating with us. Now if the owners initiate conversation to reach some type of settlement and prevent a case then that's a different story.
Jesus Christ, this is just awful. Both sides are just plain dumb. All this is just a legal staring contest by both parties to see which side will blink first. Child games they are playing here, especially with so much at stake? Very irresponsible of them.
Really? You mean question a lawyer who stands to make a HELL OF A LOT MORE MONEY by being in court than he does by settling with the owners. Yeah, why would you question HIS motives? DD
If the players are attempting to litigate, they can wait the 3 weeks and this thing will drag on until next summer or longer. But everyone is saying the union really doesn't want to litigate. Which is it?
