Circa 1968: Archie Bell and the Drells from Houston, TX. This is a great video: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dIdug40ZM-M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Catchy and familiar, but oddly unimpressive aside from the hook and the local connection. I remember the guy who wrote the "Eye Tech" song was from Houston too, used to advertise some random-ass barbecue rodeo type place.
It's an OK song, but that video is awesome. The outfits, the dancing, the hippie white dudes playing in the background, and best of all, the drummer. That whole video is an epic mash-up of 1962 and 1969. Incidentally, Archie doesn't dance that much because he had been shot in the leg during a tour in Vietnam. Also, Archie is the brother of Ricky Bell (football player).
That's far out. It wasn't the Larry Kane Show, was it? If it was, a pity they didn't show the audience. A chick who was a friend of mine was one of their top dancers, a regular. Long, straight black hair, down to her butt, and a pair of boobers that should have been added to Mount Rushmore. Ah, the memories! Thanks, rimrocker.
For some reason the trumpet player in front of the keyboardist looks like a ghost or his color is completely desaturated.
