what information do I lack? Do you have some statistic I am unaware of? If your going to call someone uninformed then the least you can do is explain the lacking information (obviously).
Ignore him. His mission isn't to discuss the issues brought up by OWS, it's only to troll and try to cast OWS in a bad light. The OWS attacks are 100% against the people in the group and 0% against the issues. This is the same guy who's posted stuff that says he doesn't care about how a justice comes to decision only that the decision is one he agrees with. evidence and logic be damned. You can't reason with someone like that.
Unlike Basso, I think Tanallover is still salvageable. If he keeps thinking he is going to get there. Tan, Your fast and lose with numbers you can't have any knowledge about. It illustrates 'confirmation bias'. Opinions should be stated as "I believe" or "it appears to me". Your eyeball test would be influenced on whether your information came from watching FAUX news or Mother Jones or reporting that works to deliver actual unbiased, scientific polling numbers i.e. your story, my story and the truth...or the thousand shade if grey in bewtween. This isn't critical or technical writing (I don't know exactly what it is really) but unequivocal statements of fantasy reflect badly on the writer. But you can say any crazy thing you want if you couch it as opinion. Maybe all you had to say was "to my eyeballs".
If he keeps thinking he is going to get there????? Really!!!!!!! That is absolutely hilarious. I can't see how any rationally thinking person could ever think the liberal / progressive agenda is a a good thing. Thank you tallanvor for thinking rationally.
Traditionally, and I only mean the entire history of man, worldwide, it's the liberal progressive thinkers that drag the conservative regressivies from the tribal warfare and fuedal monism of the caves into the pluralism and advancements of the future. But, believe what you want there Mr. Anachronism, Royalist, Unabomber, Taliban, Luddite. You are only free when you work together as a society, otherwise some bigger stronger smarter dude is going to take your sh** and impregnate your women.
The original Tea Party folks do have a lot in common with OWS. Shortly after the original folks started protesting the fact that they were being screwed in today's society, the Koch bros and the Dick Armeys, Rand Paul' s and other libertarian/conservative operators moved in , bought the big touring buses etc. and the paid organizers to coopt the movement.
Bob I was raised in the country. I can hunt, fish, grow a garden, and yes I have even "camped out" more than most people. I have defecated "like a bear" many times. I have never defecated within a city limits without a toilet. There are no bears in Zuccotti Park.
I guess you would just rather let the government take my sh** and give to someone who hasn't earned it!!
It would be the price you pay for having a certain amount of money/possessions. 10% of the country lives in a civilized society and doesn't pay squat so your statement is incorrect.
Donny this country is 15 TRILLION dollars in debt and running TRILLION plus dollar deficits. If the government took everyone sh** they still would be in debt. When this country falls to it's knees under the weight of debt caused by huge entitlement programs and yes military spending, things aren't going to look so civilized.
Common sense is lost on these people. How they think the 53% aren't paying their "fair share" is beyond me. 47% of the people are like leaches. Well the country is out of blood for them to suck. It's time for them to support themselves.
So since I was staying at the Millennium Hilton on Church St, I hoofed it over to OWS on Monday morning with the intent of taking pictures and having some reasonable conversation with some people. At 730am, there were quite a bunch of people awake. Unfortunately, if you were wearing a button down shirt and dress pants, you found more people who were interested in heckling you rather than people who wanted to talk. I was directed to the Brooks Brothers and Men's Warehouse franchises by several OWS folks who were using a less profane and more clever way of pointing out my business attire. However, all were not nutjobs. There were some very respectable people with good points and good goals. These folks were not cussing anyone out or pushing Socialism or Communism. They had some decent demands and seemed to understand that the crazies sharing the park were ruining their message with Joe Everyman. The best conversation I had was with a trio of 20somethings who, upon realizing I work for the Great Satan Bank itself, did not instantly demonize me but asked me how I felt about Partner compensation versus salaries for the rank and file. We discussed (intelligently) the "bailout", the impotence of our government to do anything useful anymore, and how sad it is that Americans tend to watch channels that feed them the flavor of news they prefer. It was a good conversation and you could tell these were smart kids who did their research and weighted information from "all sides." They were polite, open for discussions, and the models of good protesters. The worst was a tie between a bum who was obviously intoxicated who yelled at me, and the guy who screamed at me for taking photos. Also, Bill Mahr was at Barnes and Noble that afternoon and almost everything that came out of his mouth was inflammatory bull****. We went to take some photos and listen to him read from his new book. I lost him when he started supporting the anti-immunization folks a few years back, but I thought checking him out would be amusing. He's all about the shock value now. It sucks. When the helicopters came in the middle of the night, it was mostly NEWS COPTERS. They were right outside my hotel room, and it was loud. The geography of the area is not made for herding people via helicopters; people who think that the police used helicopters to move everyone out need to walk that area and they'd realize how ridiculous that concept is. I was too freaking tired to go downstairs and check out the madness, but in the morning the park was clean as hell. After that they had all sorts of roadblocks everywhere down there. Also they shut down the World Financial Center because the homeless were showing up in droves; this sucked because that's where about 20 restaurants feed the local workers so no Cosi for me on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition, the Verizon local line workers are protesting Verizon's decision to shut down the non-wireless business; they were far better organized and you could hear their chants from the 20th floor of my building all day. In short, it was not the huge life changing event that some make it out to be. There were more nutjobs than sane protesters. However I believe that in the first few weeks, the sanes one outnumbered the crazies. Stuff like this just attracts crazy. Also, Bloomberg was correct in saying that the site was a health menace...it smelled BAD in some areas. (It didn't after they power washed it)
Nope, I realized I misspoke and changed what I meant to say. You will see it says 10% now. Sry for the edit. None the less, it still applies that if a sizable portion are paying nothing to live in a civilized society, then that must not be whats being paid for. What's actually being paid for is the right to retain X number of possessions/money because one has the option to pay no taxes by simply living with less money/possesions. Even if the number was .0001% this would be true.
