Checking Twitter...Sports By Brooks reported this 40 minutes ago...not one other source is confirming it.
He's probably made a (relative) boatload of cash at ESPN. I can't imagine him just coaching right out of the gate.
pat_dooleyPat Dooley by caplannfl I can only tell you what Urban just texted me back about rumor that he has accepted job at Ohio State -- "No truth to it."
Wellp, if OSU gets him, their program is back... assuming no more sanctions are put on the program by the NCAA.
elevenwarriors a buckeye blog/site has been talking about this since yesterday. sports by brooks stole it and isnt giving credit. granted they could be wrong, but still seeing so many on twitter tweeting SbB stuff. he wasnt the first on this.
If true, this is the best possible hire for Ohio State and they will compete for national championships as long as Meyer remains coach.
ALLsportsINTEL Rich Smith NCAAF UPDATE - Multiple reports that former Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer has not accepted Ohio State job, no truth rumors he had.
this rumor will be around until the end of the season. i wouldnt imagine them announcing anything until at least after the season. who knows
I'm watching Nebraska v. Michigan. Urban Meyer was just asked by the other announcers if he's accepted the Ohio State head coaching position. He denied being offered the job. The very sterile and short way they did this makes me think it's a done deal. If there was nothing to it, there would have been more elaboration.
Interesting that Ohio State would go after the same man who owned them in the national championship game. Twice.
That's what I took from that little exchange, as well. He didn't deny being in talks about the job, wanting the job, or anything like that. Just succinctly said he hasn't accepted the job and hasn't been offered the job, which is all obviously true in any "official" terms since Ohio State still has a head coach right now and it would be incredibly unprofessional for either party to say otherwise. It just sounded like he said what he had to say "on the record" without outright lying and tried to move away from it as quickly as possible. Id be pretty shocked if he isn't named Head Coach at Ohio State pretty soon after the Michigan game. Good hire too, his offense with Braxton Miller should destroy Big Ten defenses for years to come.
I don't get why he is interested in coaching. Why did he leave a great situation on Florida? Larry Brown syndrome?
Probably because he wanted to live in B-CS but Mike Sherman had it locked up. Also there were dumb rumours (probably fake started by slack-jawed, jorts-wearing ESS EEE SEE types while in line at Wal-Mart) about affairs and whatnot.
Yeah, I get the appeal, but he walked away from one of the premier jobs in CFB. You'd think he did that for a reason.
If you believe him, he nearly quit after 2009 because of health issues, but then decided to give it another year. He then quit after 2010 because those health issues were not getting resolved and the stress wasn't good. Without knowing what the underlying issue is, its hard to say if 1 year off can fix the issue, or if it would crop up again.
