I know it's bad with Tebow, when I'm watching highlights this morning and my wife makes the comment that he is very popular when she is not into football at all . . . and heck no, I wouldn't take Tebow over Leinart...
I lol'd hard when they showed John Elway after Tebow scored the winning TD. It was like, "Why won't this a**hole lose so we can replace him already?" You can tell they really don't want to revert to being a college team to accommodate him.
Vick was too stupid despite having close to a 100 gbr, or vy who pretty much improved his passing every year he was a starter. Tebow got a 22 on wonderlic which is better than cam or terry bradshaw.
Boooo! I missed the Tebow magic last night. I turned it off at 10-3 after the 2nd Denver punt in a row.
I have to admit I am coming around to Tebow. With the Sandusky scandal and greed shutting down the NBA season a feel good story about a nice guy winning is good break from all the other crap in pro-sports. As for his Christian faith I'm not about to convert to Christianity but if he really believes it helps him be a better person then I am not that bothered by it.
You cannot deny Tebow's will to win -- it's there, and a key reason why he's able to engineer these types of wins. Hard to assume he'll be able to run like this long term, though -- scrambling QBs like a Vick or VY6 tend to get injured over time
You made some good points early on but you closed it with this rubbish. 1. Since when is the Wonderlic score an accurate prediction of NFL smarts or success? I thought by now we all knew it was worthless? 2. He scored a 22! That's not at the bottom of the Wonderlic. Now if you wanted to say that's lower than the other QB's in the same draft class as him, then yeah, but it's not at the bottom of Wonderlic scores for QB's overall. Go look up a couple of hall of famers- Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, and a most likely hall of famer- Donovan McNabb, and find out their Wonderlic scores. Go look up Cam Newton and Jake Locker's Wonderlic scores.
Tebow's problem is he's an even worse passer than even VY was. He missed passes yesterday that a high school QB would have made. The free ride their defense is giving him won't last forever. At some point he will have to make basic throws consistently and learn how to read a defense. VY lovers argued "scoreboard" for a long time to defend him. Tebow won't last that long. I don't buy the "will to win" stuff.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/john_lopez/07/08/qb.rule/index.html Interesting theory on rating pro success to wonderlic scores, college starts, and completion percentage. Has some successes, but like all theories it, has some misses as well.
I don't think Tebow's ability to read the defense is much of a question. The option read requires a lot of knowledge on reading the defense, and Tebow is not turnover prone. Maybe he is a little too conservative, but with his dual threat ability, I'd much rather have a QB be too conservative in his reads. His accuracy... now that's another story.
Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeebow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpblCaU6Zz0 The thing is, the guy should have been drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. Then he could have held a clipboard for a few seasons and rewired his game. But he was drafted high, so he's making too much money for Denver to be patient with him. That's not his fault. But I'll say this, his teammates love the dude, you can tell. They want him to succeed, and he will succeed, but the Broncos have to be patient.
He's a hard worker and has the will to improve his mechanics. It might take four years though because his throwing motion is horrible, like trying to throw a wet nerf football. But I also remember a time when people used to laugh at chuck hayes' shooting form and now he is no joke with his sick moves around the basket. I wished the Texans would pick him up as a situational QB(ie 3rd and inches) while he received training from our quaterback gurus.
The Chuck Hayes comparison is a good one. Some how, some way, Chuck succeeds. It is amazing. Tebow has technical issues, yes, but his work ethic and his will to win is exceptional. If the Broncos are patient and work with him he can succeed against all odds. He is a clutch performer and if his skills improve appreciably and they will, he could be something special.
It involves reading the defensive end/lb and which way he's going - that's not the same as reading a zone blitz pre-snap etc.
Except, Jesus was talking about the pharisees. Tebow has done nothing but give Jesus all the credit and thank his teammates. Yes he prays in public. But prayer is not just for in private although very important. Tebow is a witness to the world and when he isn't able to tell them gospel he is trying to live it out.
