A member of David Boies legal team requested the case be reassigned from a magistrate judge to a district judge. Request was granted.

Starting their own league ABA style is probabably the best thing the players can start doing, actually. This is the only thing that will give them leverage over the owners.

Shane Battier should totally be the player/owner of the Flint, Michigan franchise and sing at every game.

Billy Hunter is a bigger idiot than he thinks everyone else is if he feels like anyone will believe that load of garbage. He is completely clueless, this move by the union doesn't seem to be well thought-out and they don't have any idea where it will lead.

This is hopeless and to think he's still getting paid. It may take throwing him off the wagon to get a deal done (to save this season or even next season).

It will be nasty when players turn on him.

I had a feeling someone was going to throw something out like this.

    1) Who pay's their paychecks, travel expenses, stadium fees, insurance, etc. Most likely they will have to work off a percentage of gate minus agent and administrative costs. I doubt that would give them the cash they are looking for. The other option is to find new owners wanting to fund this venture of yours. Good luck with that given the past couple of months.

    2) You'd have 5 maybe 10 teams - tops. They'd be near all-star or globetrotter type teams. How many times per year do you want to come out and watch that? Not 41 times IMO.

Billy Hunter gets some credit for having the best damn lawyer in the world in his back pocket. The owners will feel the pressure, and the players will get the small concessions they desire.

You think David Boies is a super lawyer who's mere presence guarantees the players will get what they want?

I dont think it would benefit them to try and start up a full blown league like the ABA or whatever.

My suggestion to the players would be to setup a tournament style 2 month long league. Sort of like March madness with the NCAA in one, two, three, or four locations max. Vegas might welcome a month long tournament during a slower part of their year. This April/May might be a good time to setup a tournament. I would love to see the best in the world on smaller teams in a tournament. With a huge pot of money for the winners.

I don't want to see a bunch of prima donna players sitting there letting the others through for layup after layup.

if they want to put a tournament together where the winning team gets 75% of the cut......now I would be interested.

Guaranteed money is killing the game.

Just think of the upsets too, and the true ability for underdogs to get paid more than the "divas" etc.

Someone call up somebody and book this tournament in Vegas in April and Ill be there.

What a new league needs is a TV deal. In fact, NBA gets much of its money from TV (national and local), too. I don't think the new league will get as good a deal as the NBA (the "Lakers," "Celtics," etc. brands are worth something) but maybe enougn to get players by.

Live sports is worth a lot to TV stations since you can't TiVo it, and if you do form a legitimate league, I'd think someone would buy the TV rights.

The problem with a new league is that at any moment the NBA could simply end the lockout and all those players are back under contract.

No one will invest any $$$ in that.

wrong again. The players have dissolved their collective bargaining. The owners cannot enforce contracts that have no CBA by which to enforce them. That is the definition of antitrust.

    OK, this is interesting.

So are you saying the contracts are already voided? Why would the union seek to have the lockout declared illegal then? Wouldn't that then force them back to work?

I am not a lawyer by any means, but this is interesting....
