Wow, I hope you are not serious because you are not making sense at all.

2nd hand smoking kills other people who don't smoke. What harmful effects do eating fast food cause to the other people? Have you ever heard of anyone die because people around him/her eating fast food?

Well I was talking only about one's own health. You know smoking is already banned in most public places and smokers smoke alone or with other smokers.

But parents who eat fast food set an example for their children.

And people who get sick from being unhealthy cause skyrocketing health costs.

    Good post.

Don't get me wrong, it's bad. But how much worse is it than any other of the multitude of things that are dangerous?

It's just become socially accepted to bash smokers.

I've really never gotten this argument and actually I kind of resent it.

Why do smart people drink? Why do they eat fast food? Why do they even eat meat? Why don't they exercise every day?

Could it be that perhaps they do not entertain an eternal life fantasy?

Sorry to spoil the surprise for you, but we're all dead. And some people are drawn to other unhealthy habits than you are.

He meant worse for the smoker not the people around him. But fast food does increase insurance costs for everyone, as smoking does, because it frequently leads directly to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

As for the morally superior, fast food (and meat eating in general) may not kill the people around you but it does cause widespread genocide of other animals.

As a smoker, I was considerate and didn't smoke around non-smokers so I doubt I was responsible for anyone's death. I've also been vegan more years than not so I'm not directly responsible for a genocidal industry either. When I smoked I harmed only myself and that really wasn't anyone else's business.

As long as people don't smoke around me, I could care less whether they imbibe or not. People should be free to be as destructive to themselves as they like, as long as they don't bump someone else off while they're doing it.

By the way, my team (including your's truly) won at trivia tonight. Suck on it.

we know it kills us we know its expensive...
    we can't smoke everywhere...

I just don't understand why other people care so much what someone else does..

most of the times people have to smoke outside, that really offends some of you?
    just walking by it? Really?

this is the stuff we have to b**** about here, “I smelled cig smoke today” boohoo

caffeine is also addictive, pounding down that quarter pounder with a 40oz drink is bad..

alcohol if anything should be illegal, ruins more lives than cigs...

    I'm off my soapbox now...

If it's a designated smoking area, then that's fine. Someone who doesn't want to be subject to second hand smoke can avoid that area. If you're going to light one up and walk on the sidewalk, leaving a puff and trail of smoke along, then there's a problem.

Smoke if you want. It's the irresponsible smokers that cause the problems, and quite frankly, that's like 95% of smokers.

I think it should be designated to certain areas to protect others. My school banned tobacco products all together to "protect the health of students" but what I don't understand is how many people have died from second hand dipping?

I think smoking is cool and when I grow up, I'm going to be a smoker! Just like in the movies.

So called "second hand smoke" is by far the most overrated, r****ded thing in the history of overrated meaningless crap spewed by holier-than-thou a-holes. You literally get "second hand smoke" out the ass by stepping outside for 5 minutes in your beautiful upper middle class condo in Katy. When you take into account air pollution, "second hand smoke" fades to insignificance. it's like pouring a glass of water into a swimming pool.. Doesn't really change much. So you guys claiming that it "kills people" need to chill out and go out more.

    PS: not a smoker.

When you're talking repeated, prolonged exposure to second hand smoke (e.g., kids of smokers, people who worked in bars and restaurants before the smoking ban), this statement is pretty much false.

Not really. We learned about this stuff in my Safety class (chemical engineering). There are regulations for PELs (permissible exposure limits) set forth by various governmental agencies. We crunched the numbers based on conservative estimates, and unless said bar has zero air conditioning/ventilation, the smoke inhaled from 2nd hand doesn't exceed that limit.
