I have always said this: I believe that smokers should have the same rights as homosexuals - a person should be allowed to put any nasty old thing in his mouth that he wants to.
quit smoking 9 month ago, cold turkey after smoking for 8-9 years. I can dunk the basketball again. I run a 40 in 5.2 now. My ED symptoms has gone away. I've actually grown 2 inches My teeth is white. I don't have to wash my hands with soap and drink fish sauce to hide the smell from my gf anymore. I save 40 bucks a week, 160 a month, and thousands + a year! My health insurance went down a few bucks. My daughter calls me daddy instead of "you nasty smoking b*stard" now. My dentist dont giggle at and speaks in chinese about my nastsy team. When I get my nails done, them chinese ladys don't talk to each other in chinese about me and start laughing. Best decision of my life.
Wouldn't smoke, don't see the point of it, don't like being around people who are smoking (smell, 2nd hand) but it's their business, I don't support a governmental ban on it or anything like that.
I smoked since I was 17.. now I'm 26.. wasn't a hardcore smoker.. during my freshmen yr in college it was at about a pack a day.. only for that year.. normally about 7-10 ciggs a day... I quit cold turkey about 2 months ago.. haven't had one yet.. still get urgest once in a while.. but strong enough to fight em.. anyways to the main topic.. I prefered not to smoke around people who didn't smoke.. if an establishment allowed smoking (e.g bar/pool hall) then I would smoke.. did not like smoking at places food was served.. even if it was a smoking section.. usually would go outside to smoke... but even at that I was corteous and would go near my car in the parking lot or somewhere away from where many people walked.. on campus I would keep away from people when I smoked.. I respect people's decision not to smoke and would try to avoid smoking around non-smokers.... I was especially careful around children.. If I were standing somewhere smoking and a parent with their kid was walking my way.. I would walk away.. The thing I really hate seeing is parents who have a infant/toddler in their arms and they smoke.. that is ridiculous.. Anyways, I'm just glad I made my choice to quit 2 months ago and I'm hoping I can keep this way..
I never knew my grandfathers. They both smoked a pack+ a day. I'm allergic to tobacco... walking by a smoker can also flare up my asthma. You can guess how I feel about cigarette smoke.
Good for you but America in general is still fat. So obviously it is an epidemic that has consequences for everyone.
Horrible, disgusting habit that should be outright illegal. Saying someone has the right to smoke to me is equivalent of saying someone has the right to smoke crack, or shoot up poison.
People who smoke are cool. They look more sophisticated and stylish. I wish I smoked but have never been cool enough.
I'm against smoking, at all, of anything, in any form. It's just flat bad for you over time. I agree with what you said 100%, Pugs. Every point valid, except the 'keeping you skinny part'. It's not that tobacco is some dieting wonder-drug, it's that it satisfies the oral retentive urge that smokers have in spades to stick something in their mouths. To your points: 1) Tens (hundreds?) of thousands of non-smokers are killed every year due to 2nd hand smoke. -Right 2) It increases insurance premiums of non-smokers due to cancer and breathing treatments of smokers. -This is why I'm in favor of different premiums for smokers, drinkers, recreational drug users and obese. You want to pay less? Take care of yourself. 3) When they go out for their 3-4 daily “smoke breaks” I am taking the workload, not to mention if they get this, I should get to leave 30-40 minutes early every day. Of course, some businesses provide employees with 2 10 minute breaks throughout the day, I just wish I had a better way to utilize them. -Preach on. Huge double standard. In a time when the bottom line is shaved down to the micrometer, I'm not sure how smoke breaks (wasting company time) are allowed. 4) When I was younger, kids at school would actually flat out ask me if I smoked because my clothes wreaked of it. I was so used to it, that I didn’t even notice, but today I can imagine what other kids must have thought. -I didn't have this problem, but I hate that smoking smell. 5) What to do with the ashes and cigarette butts? I find it odd that today, a lot of cars don’t even have ash trays, so what is a smoker to do? They just throw it out the window. Isn’t this littering? -I think there should be a new class (or if there is a class it should be enforced) of burning littering with hugely steep fines. How many fires this summer during the drought were caused by tossed smokes? 6) Those people that can’t seem to read a sign that says “Smoking Prohibited within 20 feet of Entrance”, or fail to go to a designated area, yet stand right next to the entrance. -Tell them to ****ing move. I think that smokers, in modern times, are a combination of not being self-aware and being selfish. It's really a symptom of a bigger problem. We're an oral-retentive society. We constantly need satisfaction from our mouths. Look at any corner store for proof. Smokes, Booze, Energy Drinks, Junk Food, Chips, Sodas, Desserts, Gum, Chap-stick, etc. People need to learn to take some pleasure in other things in life. Smoking has killed or will kill more than half of my family. I'm all for people quitting. Good luck to those who do.
Smoking in general is bad, I never really got into smoking cigs but I used to smoke weed occasionally. Now, if I were to do that again I'd be using a vaporizer or eating baked goods. I agree that smoking is very bad, and I'm not trying to say if you smoke weed it's less harmful because smoke is smoke but I think there are alternatives out there. Whether it be an E-cigarette or etc. Get help while you can and it's never to late to quit.
