I accidently started a fight and killed Faendal. I went with it, and have his house now etc. But missed out on the training.

I've also wasted almost 2700 coin in paying off the guards from prior offenses.

The thing about companions is that the fact that they actually die is frustrating. I've already had two of my companions, though not Lydia, get killed. So I generally go without. The horse is good enough.

If you have a house you can use, it might not be worth it to buy your own.

The one thing I'm not sure about is if the house isn't really yours if there will be a reset at some point and the items you stored in the house will be cleansed from the chests and containers in it. I don't know. Also in my house I bought an alchemy table and equipment, so that's my house for good, and I can store alchemy ingredients there too. I've never successfully made a potion though and don't really try to much, but it's nice to have the option.

Question about Faendal. I've done the first part of the quest but haven't talked to him yet. If I tell Lydia to part ways and then get Faendal and use him for his training, can I go back and get Lydia to join me again?

he doesnt need to be in your party for training.

Now if he gives you training for free or reduced is a different situation.....hmm

They don't die from the environment or other creatures... just you I believe. When they get hit hard from a trap wall of spikes or from a dragon/giant... they just kneel down while they recover.
I think they only die if you hit them.

That's what I meant. If I get him in the party for reduced or free training, can I get Lydia back in my party later?

If they are going to bother to make it to where your companions are "immortal" to the dangers of the world, they should make it to where they don't get killed on accident by you. It is too easy to slash one to death or hit them with some magic that kills them.

They should have made it a speech option to pick a fight with them to kill them, but not accidently in battle.

I think unless you "go your seperate ways" they are always available to add back to your party later.

Just tell them to "wait here". They'll either show up back where they started or at your house.

Yes it's just like Fallout where companions wait at their homebase.
This game is so awesome; my work productivity is suffering big time.

Can I get a different companion if I just tell my current one to wait? I thought I had to tell them to go the separate ways.

Potions are a very easy money maker early in the game. Just picking up all the crap I walk by, I easily made 5,000 gold early on without having to fight anything. I think I also got a level or two out of the process.

I guess I don't have any recipes. I should buy a book or something about it. I think they sell them at the stores in one of the towns.

You don't need recipes. Just go up to an Alchemy Lab and start mixing stuff and experimenting. Once you find a combination that works, it will note that for you.
Or if you want, go to the Wiki and find out what ingredient does what. Make all the stuff you can use first, so you don't waste those ingredients. And then go back and make all the other junk you don't need and sell that.

wait here is a command, but I think its time to part places (or something like that) means your solo again meaning you can grab that other companion.

Made a pure melee class. Got to level 10 in 6.5 hours of gameplay with all the crafting. Have full improved dwarven armor(tier 5 i think) set with enchanted weapon. Pretty much just 1 shotting everything.

    2her/smithing/enchanting/heavy armor perks so far.

That's impressive. I have a dwarven sword and a dwarven helmet only. I'm level 13 too. So that's crazy to have all that at level 10.

Thanks everyone for the advice on Lydia and the alchemy stuff. I can't wait to try it out. My only problem is that I'm super booked until Thanksgiving. I don't know when I'm going to get to play again before that. I may have to forgo sleep. It's crazy that the game is so addictive that I'm freaked out over not being able to play it for a few days.

Even with the best games I'm usually not that wound up about it.
