An injunction would be to end the lockout, right? The goal of summary judgement would be what? To get treble damages now? To eliminate the NBA uniform labor rules? To get the courts to create a new CBA?

the players got more than they deserved the last deal, and the system restrictions are about trying to improve competitive balance, which is good for the nba. there is nothing wrong with owners trying to improve the nba product.

the players are straight up spoiled by the last agreement. nba players have it great compared to many other pro athletes and they just dont realize it and dont see the big picture. i was 100% pro player when this started, now i think they are fools. the last offered deal was not bad

    That is false, DD.

Daryl Morey and Shane Battier have both said as much in quite a few articles.

Anybody with insight on the european teams?

What's the european system like? Is there a hard cap and union?

Why do the players like Deron Williams take a lesser salary in Europe, when they are saying they are worth more during collective bargaining? Wouldn't their star presence increase basketball revenues in large cities like London or Paris?

Depends on country. For most countries it is 1-2. Some countries like Belgium or Germany can have 6+ Americans.

Then how did the league survive in the 80's, 90's and 2000's? Oh, and in Russell's era too?

Thanks for the info. So, say three or four weeks at least to get this in front of a judge Im assuming to even start the process.

Im wondering if American Airlines had a settlement this big with its Union, how long would it take to get planes back in the air?

My understanding from what I've read is to have the lockout declared illegal under federal labor law. I don't handle much federal labor law, so I can't comment too much on the merits of that, aside from what I read.

But the process is still no less than 3 weeks before a judge makes that determination (and often judges don't make those decisions on the day of the hearing)....no idea what that does to timeframe for season, generally.

China's basketball market > entire Europe. Biggest hoops markets are US and China.

I think they do see the big picture. As businessmen, they see no need to put $3B back in the owners pockets and also agree to system changes that are more restrictive. That seems to be a whole lot of giving from a business standpoint!!

Also, what CBA change is going to bring competitive balance, in a league where you have to have one of the games best players to win....and there aren't 30 of them?

I guess that would explain why the league had record interest and revenues last year then, driven by that superteam in Miami....

they clearly do not see the big picture or they would have taken the deal. they are NOT going to get anything better than what was just offered. the changes want to make it easier for small market for teams to hold on to stars i guess. idk if it will work, but if you are an owner you have to try to at least try. i understand their position now whereas i didn't see it before. i agree there arent enough superstars to go around, so the NBA will never be like the NFL for that and other reasons, but maybe you can stop things like whats happening in miami, could potentially happen in NY, Dallas, because those owners have more money to throw at a championship than others so it gives them a big advantage. its too easy for big markets to lure big time players right now. i dont blame owners for wanting to restrict movement some. maybe it will work, maybe it wont, but why dont we see if it works first before bashing it. obviously the last way did not work so lets try something new. it has an opt out after 6 years anyway.

    players are idiots

when you are deciding whether another man is going to get paid this year, i think that man deserves a vote, dont you ? i would be very upset if someone else was deciding my livelihood. people have families to take care of man. how are not even going to present it to the players ???? thats ridiculous

Average player's salaries were less than $5 mil for most of that time period. Even Michael Jordan only made $2-4 mil for most of that era.

It's all about the money though. They may have a larger population. However, the average Chinese fans make less than $4/hr and will be unable to make enough money to support a $15 million/yr NBA players.

I didn't say that. I said the Chinese market (yes, money) is larger than Europe. I didn't say it's larger than US.
