That's also an LCD flaw. Looks like pretty much everyone has the glossy screen. It makes the image colors "pop" so people are drawn to them due to the "pretty colors." The matte/semi-matte screens are limited; you have to look for that specifically. I bought a 42" Panasonic LCD for someone that had a matte screen as they did not want glossy. Pioneer's had a nice screen in that reflection is not bad; but they no longer make plasmas. Samsung has awful reflections on their glossy screens; almost mirror like.

He's thinking of the old LCD DLP projection sets. Those actually had great picture quality. But I'll still live and die by plasma.
Any opinions on the 42' Sharp LCD at Best Buy? I know it may be war to get one on Black Friday but I will try anyway.
there's no bulb for plasma: Plasma technology consists hundreds of thousands of individual pixel cells, which allow electric pulses (stemming from electrodes) to excite rare natural gases-usually xenon and neon-causing them to glow and, thus, produce light. This light illuminates the proper balance of red, green, or blue phosphors contained in each cell to display the proper color sequence from the light. I couldn't get past the "soap opera" look of the LCD. Stayed with my sister for a month and everything on her tv just looked off. Combined with the general overall better picture (to me), deeper blacks, and diminished burn-in risk on new sets, I went with a new Samsung plasma 5 months ago. Very happy with the decision. Spent more than I wanted to, but got a great tv. But to each their own. Sounds like some in this thread really like that quality.
I have an LCD and Plasma, although I have an early Generation Sharp Aquos LCD so the new ones look a lot better, but I can tell you Plasma is better than LCD if you are talking about visual representation. LCD has made improvements but these improvements are based on correcting the flaws that are just part of the LCD format itself. The flaws will always be there, just covered up in makeup to make that ugly mug look better. Add some brighter lights to hides those pimples (like those mall photo studios so popular with teens). Add some motion smoothing (plastic surgery) to make the picture look better and more real than real life. Cartoons like great and video games probably do too but it doesn't feel like you are watching a film for regular movies. Buy LCD if you want a thinner set (made possible with the use of LEDs with edge lit being the thinnest vs full array), play a lot of video games with static images (life bar, time, etc.), concerned about the heat generated by plasma making your room hot, have a lot of windows that may cause glare (also a problem with glossy screened LCD), want to be energy efficient, want more brand choices.
you can turn that option off. it gets confusing, each manufacturer calls it something different. cinemotion or trumotion or whatever, it's in the options menu to reduce or turn off completely. it was originally meant to help with the blurring issues for fast motion like sports, but consumers don't know that. they'll keep it on (it's probably on default) for everything.
Oh damn... I remember working for Conn's in 2006, telling people, one of the setbacks of a plasma is the bulb goes out.... Never understood why I didn't sell alot of TV's ... Now I know.... My sells would've doubled if I had know that .... I was a beast in selling washers/dryers... I would tell folks to get an oil change twice a year , when your washer's motor started knocking... Needless to say I worked there exactly 3 weeks

fair enough. it was her tv. still, even with less of a soap opera look at the store, the LCD/LED's came off as too bright. I know you change the settings there, too, but overall I found the plasma's darker blacks actually looked more life-like to me than the glossy LCD/LED's. In either case, I got a great set, and in 5-7 years will be happy to contribute to the then current tv thread. hopefully the joke of 4D tv will be real by then
There is no doubt that the blacks are more black on a plasma, but I have yet to see a plasma without a reflection problem. The LEDs that I've been shopping for don't have that problem. I have an open living room with the TV above the fireplace and the kitchen lights right behind me with a row of windows beside me so unfortunately, I must deal with a slower refresh and lighter blacks because I can't overlook the glare. I do have a playroom that I can make my theater room but then I'd have to walk upstairs and I'm too much of a lazy American for that.
I have a plasma too, love it. Yeah, most people just watch the tv out of the box and don't mess with the settings. Alot of people don't even change the aspect ratio of their dvd players, so i notice that watching movies, people look really skinny. then I tell them if i can check out their dvd player, and i notice it's still on 4:3 on widescreen tv.
well, you maybe the first clutchfan in the us to own a haier tv. let us know what you think of it. it's a chinese brand and i think they are beginning to sell them at bigger stores now.

My old Sony projection screen went out on us last week, so we went with the Samsung 55" D6000 LED yesterday. Best Buy has it on sale for $1097. Couldn't wait until black Friday. This thing is beautiful!
