Sam Houston now 9-0 and ranked #3 in the country. Moved up 1 spot from last week.

We're basically the I-AA version of Stanford. I'll take it!

Except we won't get screwed out of a chance at the title because some computer decided so.

I was wrong before, according to the SLC site, SHSU has clinched a playoff birth. A win this week would give us our first outright title. The previous 3 were co-championships.

since i will be rooting for shsu in the playoffs, i'm very happy to hear that the loss on 11/19 won't result in them missing them.

That maybe true. But, then again, we got an education.

Oooh, burn. When Sam Houston grads start talking smack about your school's academics, that should hurt.

Sam up 23-0 in the 2nd. Looking pretty good for our first outright SLC title.

Sam might be #1 after its 43-17 victory today to win the SLC outright. North Dakota St just lost at home. Sam is the last undefeated team in fcs. The voters may keep Montana St ahead of us even with one loss but Sam will at least be #2. Last game in San Marcos, go kats!

Question is...do we rest Flanders and some of the other starters in a meaningless game next week against SWT? I guess it could hurt their seeding some if they were to lose (highly unlikely). I would like to see us send SWT out of the Southland with an ass kicking.

Normally I would say no, but this team is so loaded, resting him might not make a difference. Especially against sorry Southwest Texas.

New polls should be out in an hour or 2. Can't wait to see if we're #1!

I say you play them. Not only do I have concerns about rest vs. rust, but I don't want to risk a loss. I don't think one loss will push Sam out of playing home playoff games for the first couple rounds, but I don't want to chance it.

It's also not like these guys have a ton of wear and tear on their bodies compared to others. I don't think Flanders has taken a fourth quarter carry in conference play this season and the first team defense is usually long gone by then too. That's how out of hand most of the games have been.

Some advice for SHSU based on what I saw Texas State do vs. UCA. If #12 is playing QB, you have to play honest because he's a passer, but #11 will get more snaps and it's always a run. No need to worry about the pass, just gang up on the run. Even if the starting QB is healthy again, you don't have to worry about the pass because even though they'll pass it, that QB can't throw either. Franchione's offense is a joke. Some Texas State fans are kind of hoping SHSU blows them out as well just to illustrate how awful a hire Fran was.

I've heard tons of complaints from Texas State fans about the two-QB system they have been using. I guess the Bobcat faithful is already growing tired of Coach Fran.

I can confirm from an alum and former player that they are not pleased so far.

That same person was also telling me that there are rumors starting of Sam looking into going FBS. I sure hope not. There's nothing to be gained, IMO.

    New poll is out.

    1. Montana State Bobcats (76) 9-1 3,805
    2. Sam Houston State Bearkats (71) 10-0 3,764

Just 5 votes away from #1. Damn. How are we behind a team with a loss?

That would be a horrible idea (as Southwest Texas is about to find out). I'd much rather win a I-AA National Championship than become the next UNT and never even have the opportunity to win anything of substance ever.

We will be happy to oblige. :)

Man, what a fall from grace Fran had. From resurrecting a storied program at Alabama and being offered a 10-year extension to 10 years later having a I-AA school call for his head.

    WAR HUNTSVILLE!

Pretty exciting time for the two schools I attended (SHSU and UH). I just hope the locals in Huntsville are supporting the Bearkats. From what I remember growing up, I don't think Bowers was ever filled for a Sam Houston game. Would love to see some playoff sellouts!
