One man's take: players will vote against the proposal only if they believe a season still in play. Vast majority don't/can't go w/out one.

In memo, NBA says only 9 guys made $5M+ via mid-level over last CBA ('05). How many can we name? Sheed, Jermaine O'Neal, Artest...

Kobe is there and if the reports are true, he will try to push the players to vote for the proposal.

Alot of players look up to him and may be swayed to vote for it as a result.

Thank God for Kobe in the case!

I know everyone would love some intel of NBPA meeting, but union officials made players hand over phones again on way into the room.

Upside of NBA PR offensive in publiciizng deal: I'm told union reps who asked for hard copy of previous deal at last meeting denied by NBPA

IMO, Billy Hunter is more of a villain in this lockout than Stern.

How are you not going to let the players see a hard copy of the CBA proposal? Seems kind of shady and unethical to me.

What? The exec committee held the proposal back from the rank and file, disgusting.

I think Hunter knows he is out at some point in the near future and is just trying to buy as much time negotiating as possible. He is a lawyer getting paid by the hour, and this is probably his last major deal.

Still, its not all about money, its about winning too. However, Hunter doesn't realize that he is not going to win this war. If he continues to piss off the rank and file, he moves the players closer and closer to decertification. This is his final chance to end his career in a positive note, and hes pissing in the wind on himself.

Hunter and Stern deserve each other.

I hope after all of these lockout shenanigans are over, Hunter gets the boot.

From day one I felt that he was putting his own personal interests over the players.

    He needs to go ASAP!

As much as I believe it has failed the players, I refuse to believe the NBPA withheld the owners proposal from the rank-and-file. That has to be a false rumor.

While I may hate Stern's views on some subjects, I think he is far superior to Hunter.

    Stern > Hunter.

Hunter knows that if they boot him out, they lose any chance of a season going to the federal courts. Dont think for a minute this isnt leverage for him and his team.

Obviously. Look at how he destroyed Hunter in this deal already, and is putting him into early retirement.

It's being reported by both Marc Stein and Rob Mahoney.

Marc Stein is legit, if it was reported by some Joe Schmo, then I wouldn't believe it.

    and

Think about it. This is exactly what Stern does with his gag orders on owners -- controls release of information -- smart move. I'm sure today's meeting will lay everything on the table for a full day of discussion. Besides, the proposal is out. Obviously, Stern wanted to leak it so the union couldn't control tweeters, et al. How is controlling when news is released any worse than Stern placing a gag order on owners?

    No big deal ...

At last meeting last week, player reps given Powerpoint presentation on deal. When some asked for hard copy to share w/teammates ... denied

Come on HP, the equivalent would be for Stern not to tell the owners what was in the deal.

Nothing wrong with telling players or owners to keep it down, but to not share the deal on the table with the people that are paying your salary - basically forcing Stern to go public with it, disgusting.

    ...but why?

The players were tweeting all kinds of false information and saying things that werent even in the proposal

There is no way Jason Terry saw 3 mid level exceptions then comes out and tweets they're trying to destroy the middle class

They can't be that dumb, jocks or not

The are meeting for a full day of discussion today. Everything will be on the table. He is not withholding anything. He is controlling release of information without placing gag orders on the players. He has a harder time doing that than Stern.

Since Stern has a gag order, it is not the same. Hunter is just being smart.

He is not withholding information. Quit making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Have you ever been in a union? I have and this does not surprise me at all. Restrict and controlling the info / facts is the easiest way to control the rank and file.
