Can't we just enjoy a great season while it's going on, instead of predicting future failure? If Kubiak isn't good enough, and they do fail, there will be plenty of time to pick it apart after the fact. The Texans have just curb-stomped four NFL teams in a row, and are in first place in the AFC. I thought I was the slowest guy to the believer bandwagon, but it seems that there are even slower guys than me.
You fire coaches because you can't fire your players, but it's players that win and lose not coaches. Look, it's a carousel anyway, you win, you move up, till you lose and get fired then you move down and move over. It's still the same guys coaching. Wade's been from genius to doofus like 3 times.
I always felt there was some merit to the Texans' annual meaningless late season runs; it proved, to me at least, that the players loved and believed in Kubiak. If players quit on a coach, you know it, you see it - it's plain as day. They never did. They played hard for him and, in doing so, more or less saved his job several years in a row. If they wanted him gone, they were position to make it happen. That, I think, is now paying off. This feels like a cohesive team, all on the same page who have collectively bought into the system. The offense is reaching near-unstoppable status and anyone still questioning this defense should go watch another sport because they obviously don't understand football. Spacemouth, I think you put it best: coaches have to be a little thick-brained: dance with who brung ya; don't get fancy, etc. I thought Kubiak wildly outcoached himself last year, though he had a pretty doggone good excuse - he had to find a way to score 30 points every game. This year, we're seeing that burden lifted and he seems waaaaaay more comfortable as he finally has a good enough defense to win games, even if the offense struggles. And does ANYone remember how many teeth were gnashed over their slow starts lat year? I'll say this for Kubiak, above all else: if there's an *offensive* problem, he has MFing addressed it and then some. Even Schaub's health was a concern and the pass protection got better. If only he'd been... you know what? Doesn't matter; past is the past. This team is shaping up to be a juggernaught.
Or that we're not running the ball enough? 15 pass plays yesterday vs. 44 running plays. I heard them say on the radio that we only threw the ball 3 times in the 2nd half? We had 3 RB's with 10 or more carries yesterday. Each had a TD. Unbelievable. Amazing what happens to the running game when you have a good defense.
We've won our last 4 by a combined score of 132-42; It's freaking insane! That's ultimately why competition doesn't matter to me. This team isn't playing down to its opponent anymore; it's dictating the outcome of games and I'd support that even if they were playing Tulane every week. I'm telling you, you'd be a fool to want to play the Texans in January right now.
