They can if they even know whats going on

Etan Thomas doesn't even know the difference between revenue and profit

Casspi didnt even know the NBA opened its books up to the union many months ago

Jason Terry said theyre getting rid of the middle class yet doesnt know they have more exceptions including a yearly mini mid level exception

Anthony Parker wants to decert and have the season all at the same time

These guys have been tweeting a bunch of uninformed information since who knows when.... and you just wont gain sympathy from the average person when first of all

You cant explain why this deal is so bogus as you say

Two, you still end up richer than most people

Three... where is this better deal that you keep dreaming about coming from?

They just dont know when to quit

Have questions about the NBA's CBA proposal? Send them in to @NBA. David Stern & Adam Silver will be answering starting at 7pm/et.

:( I feel bad for your logic. So what you're saying is, a business should not make the necessary moves to make themselves profitable if the opportunity exists. Instead they should just lose money. Perhaps they've made unwise decisions but that doesnt mean they can't adjust their business to make the money they've lost. Unless their decision is affecting their business.... but its not, so your logic is faulty. Don't ever run a business

Last comment on it since this is an update thread. I'm saying no business should be guaranteed a profit simply because they are in business. There is nothing wrong with a business trying to make changes to make more $$, just like there's nothing wrong with the irreplaceable employees responsible for that business succeeding saying we won't work under those changes.

The players can try. I don't want to hear them cry about being mistreated and I certainly don't want to hear them defend their position by starting, "how would you like it if?".

Sterns position is that he wants all the owners to be garunteed a profit just like the players and he wants competitive balance. His proposal keeps the average NBA salary in the millions. I have no problem at all with David Stern and the owners position.

You are correct, no business deserves to make a profit just because they are in business. But when there is plenty of revinue for both the players to make millions and the owners to make a healthy profit there is no reason not to split the pie so everyone makes a healthy profit.

yeah, but "actors" and "nba players" isn't apples to apples as there are thousands upon thousands of actors and a couple hundred nba players. the 450th best actor in the world isn't working at wendy's. hollywood took in $10.5B at the box office last year and i assume that doesn't include all the money tv and stage took in. i don't know if it was nba minimum type money, but the 450th highest salaried actor probably made a decent bit of money last year.

i suppose therein lies the rub. people often can't put themselves in other peoples' shoes. you say "you have it better than me" so i don't want to hear anything you have to say. and yet what if crash5179 was working at a company making a ton of money. and the company just had record revenues. and your bosses walked in and said "man, it turns out we actually lost a ton of money on those record revenues, we're gonna need your prodigious talents to take a big paycut." you probably wouldn't say "well, that sounds about right, can't argue with those numbers you just told me. and i make so much as it is, what do you need from me? a 10% salary cut? 12, 14? you just say "when" when we're starting to earn you as much money as you think you need, i'm here to help." you'd probably put up a bit of fight trying to figure out why you need to take a big paycut, whether they're even telling the truth, and whether you're simply paying for their mistakes. in other words you would probably have largely the same reaction as nba players have had.

and when people are as talented at their jobs as nba players are at theirs, they tend to expect some flexibility when it comes to retaining their services. those don't tend to be the "take whatever the company is giving" employees.

(The only) two useful things I learned from the "Twitterview" @NBA with Stern and Silver:

(1). The Stretch Exception CANNOT be used on existing contracts.

(2). Starting in Year 3, the luxury tax will be calculated based on 53.5% of BRI, minus benefits, divided by 30. (That was the answer to my question!)

Props to Bima getting some Twitter time with the Comish himself.

@NBA How EXACTLY will the luxury tax be calculated starting in Year 3? Throwing out random #s doesn't indicate its relation to salary cap.

    NBANBA
.@BimaThug Tax calculation in year 3: 53.5% of BRI, subtract player benefits, divide by 30: projected at $74 mill

    1. I was not the one that initiated the actors to basketball players I simply responded.

    2. If the company was making record breaking revinue and I was making millions I would expect the owners to want to share in that. The owners tell me that I'm still going to make millions but they are going to make millions as well and they opened their books to me to prove they have been loosing millions. Their solution keeps me making millions? Yes I would take a pay cut with a smile on my face.

Can we please drop it? Or create another thread and you two can go argue there. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude by asking this.

players are clearly outmatched here, its time to take the damn deal.

idk if ill be able to handle it if they are dumb enough to turn it down. i consider myself a die hard NBA fan, but if they do not accept this deal i may have to force myself not to care about the NBA so much.
