So a while back when playing basketball I got thumb pulled back by the ball. It hurt a lot for 10 minutes and then I continued to play. If I try to move my thumb past the 90 degree point it hurts a lot. Otherwise there is no pain, but occasionally I get my thumb pulled back and there is this extreme pain.

Is there any point of going to doctor? I would like an MRI, but I don't want to go see a doctor. Is there anyway to do that.

define "a while back".....and you mean past 90 degrees going towards thumb flexion? If you can't go past 90 in thumb flexion then something is definitely wrong, maybe dislocated.

The same thing happened to me back in January. My thumb was pulled back with the ball, and it hurt like hell. Ice it. I made the mistake of massaging it over and over, and it that area still pains. The pain does last a while though.

This is the one remaining injury from my days of high school baseball. During summer ball I would play catcher sometimes with my friends catcher mitt that was waaay too broken in. If you caught a fastball too far out of the pocket on the thumb side of the mitt, the glove gave no support so your thumb would be hyper extended. I'm talking varsity high school summer ball here so fastballs are coming 80-90mph.

7 years later I'll be doing something and put just enough pressure on the thumb to hyper extend it all over again. Probably happen 6 times a year or so.

Moral of the story.. Suck it up and live with it. Everyone has sports injuries from their glory days.

Your going to have to see a doctor ASAP. Most likely you will need surgery before it gets worst to pull that ligament back.

i've done it minorly, nothing too crazy. happened to my brother beginning of his junior season. took about a year before it didn't really hurt at all anymore.

it's going to take a long time to heal i think. took me a couple months of protection while playing to feel confident again.
