I won't pretend to know anything about boxing, in fact this was probably one of only a handful of matches I have ever watched in full. But it seemed to me that Pacquaio was getting beat most of the night. When he fight was over, his body language looked like he knew he had lost. My roommate is Filipino and the biggest Manny fan I know and he was laughing when they announced the result.
Looks can be deceiving. If that's all he has then he has no power behind those gloves what so ever to knock out little man pacquaio. Remember come decision time it's quantity over quality unless some of the quality knock him to the canvas which it didn't happen.
I don't know too much about boxing either but I know math. "According to CompuBox, Pacquiao landed 176 of 578 punches. Marquez connected on 138 of 436 punches, preferring, as in his first two fights, to counter punch. Pacquiao had a 117-100 edge in power shots" http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_y...slug=ki-iole_pacquiao_marquez_decision_111211
why couldn't manny knock him out then? so knockdowns the only measure in determining quality punches? are you people really even boxing fans are just casuals?
I had Marquez winning a close fight. Not only did he land the cleaner punches but he looked more comfortable and more in control of the fight. While Pacquiao seemed to be frustrated at times. To be honest, I don't mind the decision because a Marquez win doesn't do much for boxing as a mayweather-pacquiao fight would. Yes it's wrong but I'm selfish. I wouldn't make a good judge because i would have gave it to Manny for the sake of the mega fight. I guess some of the judges felt the same. The only gripe i have about Marquez is that he somewhat coasted in the championship rounds. Knowing the history of the first two and how the favorite gets the nod in close fights like this, Marquez could have done more in the championship rounds. His team should have known that a close fight decision win had a small chance to go his way. It's sad but true. As for the fight itself, it was terrific. It wasn't a war like the first two but more of a tactical chess match. That was the sweet science. If you didn't like that fight, you don't like boxing.
you gotta respect the decision of 3 different judges from different angles. And, the stats. pacquiao haters can not present facts, only sh8t talks. now, carry on, more tequila pls.
The casual boxing fan miss a lot of punches that land and are swayed by the fan noise. Watch the fight again with the sound off, and the fight looks different. Manny landed more punches for sure and initiated the contact. That is why he won. That being said, Marquez is one strong 38 year old SOB. He has great timing to consistently hit Pacquaio coming in with his right hand.
Im sorry but anyone with any knowledge of boxing would never cite supposed amount of punches landed as an indicator of who won a fight...thats what casual fans do. A fight is won by either a knockout or who ever has the most rounds won and/or by how much each round was won. Amount of punches dont mean ish. Say it was a three round fight, and in the first round Pacman oulanded Marquez 20 to 10. In the next two rounds, Marques out landed Pac 11 to 10. The total at the end would be 40 to 32. Who won the fight? The one with the most rounds won. And thats not even going into which punches were the most significant regardless of which fighter had the most punches. Marquez won that fight. He dictated the whole fight. Constantly repositioning luring Pacman in throughout the whole fight. He repeatedly outboxed him by switching it up, moving when Pac didnt expect him to and attack first when Pac expected him to move, and then successfully countering the rest. Thats ring generalship. You dont win a fight by initiating contact, especially not when you are getting punished everytime you try, so that casual fan criteria can fly out the window as well. Their are different styles in boxing and the winner will be the one that can make his successful. Which Manny did not. Marquez was robbed plain and simple. Pacman did nothing to deserve a decision. I wouldnt say Pac got dominated or that he was schooled but he most definitely got outboxed throughout the fight, save 3-4 rounds.
Compubox is just two guys at ringside clicking joysticks. It didn't seem to very accurate, as the guy pressing for Pacquiao seemed much more generous than the guy for Marquez. Compubox also doesn't measure how clean or powerful a punch is.
Manny is a gifted fighter but Marquez schooled him as far as boxing goes he fought smarter and had way more significant blows, all Manny had were flurries but couldn't kO a smart boxer like Marquez..... I think this fight should have been a draw.
on the plus side, maybe this will make Floyd less skerd of Manny to actually step into the ring. it's ****ing disgrace that both these dudes can run around making these massive paydays by skirting the one fight that actually matters right now in boxing.
