After reading the transcripts, it's hard to believe how many people could have spoken up and didn't.....everyone wants to believe they would, but it changes when you're really in that position.

Let's hope none of us ever have to find out what position we'd have to be in to respond that way.

Mark May saying what exactly everyone in the media should be saying. I think at this point shutting down the football program for the season should not be out of the question. It's disgusting to me that the NCAA will vacate wins and suspend coaches and players for getting free tattoos, yet these guys still think they can go out and play a game this Saturday after finding out that the entire program has been facilitating child rape for a decade. But then it's not surprising - NCAA football has always been first and foremost about the money. This is the level of greed and corruption the BCS system has wrought.

It would never happen but I wish they would let the players coach themselves for the rest of the year.

Get rid of the coaches and bring in a complete new staff next year....Players deserve to play they have no involvement.....

That is a phenomenal idea. And run PSAs for charity during the entire broadcast, especially about child abuse.

Does McQueary still have a job because PSU is worried about a whistleblower type lawsuit?

Further proof that gingers do not have souls.

A scenario I could see is that Joe Pa confronted the guy about it and then the guy begged Paterno not tell the authorities...

He shouldn't be allowed to coach kids ever again, in my opinion. Part of your job as a coach is to put your kids into situations to be successful. How can you tell me this guy will ever have anyone's trust to do that.

Penn State showing it still has zero competency when it comes to this thing. If they cared at all, this guy would be fired and black listed.

Oh yeah, and he should go to jail.

I've gotta figure more likely he'll be facing a civil suit from the victims for negligence regarding his failure to report the abuse known to the state authorities. I guess the lawyers on here- Nook, Sam Fisher, etc can expound on what he and Penn State will be facing going forward legally.

Also, looks like Paterno has "lawyered up". He's getting ready for the legal battle(s) he'll be involved in.

I have been following this story and have read every post in the thread. Not much too add other than what Mark May said in the clip posted by JeopardE was spot on. It is just amazing to me how the students and so many others involved with PSU do NOT get the severity of this situation. No reason for McQueary to still have a job. What's even worse is that I read an article on yahoo in which the lawyer for one of the victims thinks that the trustees overreacted in firing Paterno!! Seriously?? What the hell is wrong with the mentality of these people in PA?? Is child molestation something that is condoned up there?? Apparently, it is with the thought processes and actions of these dip****s.

Not a terrible read on growing up in State College
    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7205085/growing-penn-state

It is really cultish with regards to the residents, school and Paterno.

I think that was the inspiration for this article on TheOnion: Sports Media Asks Molestation Victims What This Means For Joe Paterno's Legacy

    Is Sandusky in custody?

I'm surprised he's still alive if he's not detained.

i think the thing that might bother me most was the investigation in 1998 by detectives and DA's who dropped the charges knowing Sandusky was showering naked with young boys, regardless of location...

It's hard to term this tragedy as only sports related, but is this Penn State child rape and molestation scandal the worst in American sports related history? I've been trying to think of something so prolonged and disgusting, but I can't seem to think of anything where this many people in positions of authority seemed to know so much, did nothing, and allowed the behavior to persist.
