97.9 plays straight garbage. All they play is R&B it seems with little rap.

Only time I listen to them is their 12 o'clock old school lunch mix.

I despise Lil Wayne. Can't see how anyone can be a fan of his hes just a complee joke.

As for who I think is better than Drake, I'd put Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, and hell I think Rick Ross is severely underrated as a rapper.

Man I agree... I havent listened to 97.9 in a long time...literally months...

But I was using 97.9 as a metaphor for hip/hop stations

Never understood the love for Lupe. Sure he's had good songs but he doesn't make me want to buy his stuff...

Kanye is getting repetitious with trying to be different(If that makes sense)

Ross is a beast... He makes music.. His tracks always has a powerful presence

I'd put Kid Kudi ahead of Drake as well.

Nah you reaching bro.... People dont like Drake because of his crooning... But the **** be jammin.... I think the fact that his features are better than his singles , also lead people to not like him too.... But when he's on a track as a featured artist, he pretty much makes it his own...

Examples:DJ Khalid's Im on One.... Timbaland's Say Something.....

He made nowaday rappers look like Justin Bieber.

With Lupe I feel it's a hit or miss with people. You either like him or you don't.

Kanye I think has just changed his style that it takes time to get used to. Been a fan of his since college dropout and it's just amazing to see how much he's changed over the years. I think it all started with Graduation where he started going away from your typical rap and started making more "art" as he puts it. Either way I think his flow and delivery is one of the best right now.

Rick Ross is beast. Another honorable mention I'd put out there is Young Jeezy. Doesn't get the credit he deserves probably because he doesn't overtake radio stations.

I'll probably get a lot of heat for this but to me Jay Z is as good as anyone out there right now. Still commands the beat, great delivery, great wordplay. I am biased though seeing how he's my favorite rapper. Lol

Although Im not a big Jay fan, I would say he's definitely top 3 of all time.... I like the early Jeezy more than now.... In ATL and Miami , he's on the radio all day... Here we play garbage so he should feel honored we dont play him here....

The problem with Kanye's music, IMO, is...where do I play it?? His music always detours into some crazy **** about 2 minutes in.... In the car , I wanna hear some bass ... At home I wanna relax and hear some laidback music .... In the club/bars, I wanna enjoy myself and hear something lively...
His music doesnt quite fit either of those auras to me

Is an all right CD. Sounds like the same songs from his last CD. It's decent though. People are weird are this board. Young Jeezy? Rick Ross? Rick Ross has great production. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League is one of the best. That's the only reason Rick Ross is good. Can name five rappers that you don't hear about that can murder these rappers lyrically.

Ludacris cant do a whole song. It's like he's a part-time rapper. Only brings it in features.

Edit: btw, Rick Ross is turrible. Justin Beiber has more skill than his fat ass, though his verse on "Lord Knows" is decent.

We're talking about commercial rappers. I too can go ahead and make a list of underground rappers that no ones heard of but it doesn't mean they're the best just because they aren't commercially successful.

Well I don't mean just because they are underground they are better. Commercially successful does not mean bad but does not automatically mean good. Waka Flaka and Gucci Mane. Nuff said. But it's odd that people only have blinders for people like Jay Z, Wayne, Drake, Female Wayne, Ross. These circle of people frustrate me cause hip-hop is so much better. There has been 5 or 6 CD within the past 2 months that have come out and have been amazing. Yet we have threads for a male Lauren Hill and people think he is top shelf.

I started it. Didn't get too far because I didn't have the time, ill listen to it in full sometime later this week, but I liked what I heard. 75 minutes seems really long for a rap album though.

As for the hate, Drake's not my favorite but I think he's alright. His last album wasn't half bad. And he has some cool guests on here (well, mostly just excited about The Weeknd being on here). Liked the singles I heard from this one, think it'll be even better

Agreed. The only thing I'll disagree on is on mentioning Jay Z with everyone else. To me he's accomplished so much in his 20 years in the game and is so highly regarded by people in the industry. He actually has a great body of work even though post Black Album may not be that great but still a lot better than whatever is invading radio stations.

Unfortunately we are forced to listen to nothing but garbage on the radio so we're better suited finding good music elsewhere. Up until 2 months ago I did not know who ASAP Rocky was but he's grown on me. Kid has talent. Kendrick Lamar is another name I keep hearing but honestly don't see what the buzz is about. Maybe he'll grow on me with time.

As for Drake I remember back 2 years ago he performed with Bun B at Warehouse Live. Show was great. He was still up and coming, putting out mixtapes that I think we're better than his first album. Seems to that since he signed with YM he just hasn't been as good unless on features. Will give the album a listen hopefully it's better than his first.

I didn't mean Jay Z was bad. I just meant mainstream. I don't care for Jay-z personally but to each his own. I grew tired of Lil Wayne but that was because radio stations played him too much and I burned out. Drake is slowly getting to that annoying stage where I like him on his mixtape and like his album but getting slowly tired of him. But I'll give you and anybody you loves hip-hop five songs that make me love hip-hop. Have loved this year for hip-hop.

Freddie Gibbs/Statik Selektah feat Trae- Already
    Kendrik Lamar- Rigamortis
Lecrae/Statik Selekath- Live and Let Live
    BIG K.R.I.T. - Hometown Hero
    Phonte- The Good Fight

    bonus
    Soul Kahn- Soul Like Kahn

Will not waste your time. I take hip-hop serious.:p
