What overwhelming contradictory evidence? You mean the list that you provided for Matt, which showed him blowing it against all of the good teams? In a discussion about being "clutch"? No one moved any target. Why do you continue to say this? I thought it was common knowledge that folks don't define clutch or stepping up against scrubs (folks you should beat), and clarifying this for you is not moving a target. What overwhelming contradictory evidence have you provided to refute Kim's points, besides saying you simply don't agree? What overwhelming contradictory evidence have you provided to disprove Matt blowing it against top opponents more often that not, based on the data you provided? There is nothing wrong with not agreeing with folks, but please don't lecture folks on not giving an inch when you can't even admit Matt has a poor track record against good teams...the type of teams we need to beat come postseason time. Noting that a coach is too conservative can be proven. It's called watch a game and observe patterns, and another poster gave you 2 clear cut examples. Should I not note that someone is shy or aggressive since you can't "prove" it? That seems to be your mantra. "I don't agree so you are making stuff up...there is no such thing as clutch, etc". We are f'ed in the head because we think there are coaches out there better than Cowher, or because we don't think Matt is an elite QB? We can't enjoy the season but recognize that it's coming against a bunch of scrub teams? I would love to see you point out 7 posts in this thread where someone says "we should fire Kubiak and hire Cowher". This thread is 7 pages so I think 1 post per page is fair. The majority of the posts seem to say things like "I think Cowher is better", or revolve around not wanting to be duped into giving the dude an extension based on whipping some bad competition. And yes, that would be a valid thing to worry about. I think you should take your own advice.
I forgot about this thread...too busy now, but will explain later. Start with the Saints game. The reason the Texans only had 33 seconds left on the clock was because Kubiak got punked by Payton. Analyze what happened on the Saints last offensive possession before the half. Replay the game film. You'll understand if you take me seriously. I will do it it, and further explain later tonight or tomorrow. Sorry, too busy now. Similar with Pittsburgh...Fat Rothlesburger totally punked Kubiak's time management, but it turned out okay...will also explain this later. Bottom line is Kubiak is more conservative than many other coaches, including superbowl winning coaches. Does that make him wrong? No, but it makes me really disagree with that aspect. Watch the last 5 minutes of the half of those 3 games please. I implore you. You will understand. I'll be back.
Easiest? This schedule is easier than 2009? This schedule ain't as easy as say: Cincy or SF. And that schedule **** is an excuse to not give credit where it's due. You play who's in front of you. Luck will be a rookie with a bad OL. Manning will be old and coming off 3 neck surgeries with a bad OL. Indy's defense will turn into a super star D? No one's afraid of Freeney and Mathis any more. Tennessee will do what exactly? Jacksonville will have a new coach. You trying to tell me that "Oh, Tennessee isn't good because Munchak is in his 1st season in TEN (not an excuse, they ****ing suck), but the Texans "won't be ready" for potential new coaches in Indy and Jacksonville? What in the hell....?
My concern is the Texans win a couple Super Bowls. Then we'll be stuck with Kubiak for like 10+ years.
Uhhhh....Bill Cowher won one Super Bowl and coached the Steelers for 15 years. And that's just one example...
I buy that if Andre comes back after the bye week and is his old self. The offense is already good. The passing game is better than the league average. Having andre means that you have a pass 6 yards away in the middle of the field with a reciever that can take it another 5 yards or more. He can also attract the double team opening up room for other players.
Still haven't caught up ITT, but I'll read it all eventually. Sorry to both sides of the feud for not contributing better, but this is a break down of the Saints pre-half Kubiak pussification. (I'll do other games later) Houston was pretty much in control of the 1st half. IIRC, they were dominating both sides of the ball and should have been way up if not for red-zone ineffectiveness. Because of those red-zone issues, our Texans were only up 16-7 with New Orleans getting the ball back with around 4 minutes left until the half. The Texans D gave up 1 big catch and run to Henderson and bam, the Saints were in position to score right outside the Texans 20. The only other big play the Saints had in the 1st half was a 30 yd toss run to Sproles. Other than that, Texans D was stout. After a short 2 yd run that took the game to the 2 minute warning, the Houston defense came up big. On 2nd and 8 from the Houston 23, JJ Watt sacked Drew Brees. Here is the video: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-fantasy/09000d5d8228ad58/Texans-defense-sack-9-yd-loss My buddy and I were hollering and giving high fives. I was then yelling at the TV, "Call Timeout! Call Timeout! Kubiak WTF!" There was a minor clock malfunction, but either way, the sack play took like 7 seconds and the Texans had 2 timeouts left at the time. It was 3rd and 17 for the Saints at the Texans 32 and all I saw was tick, tick, tick, tick. I'm thinking call timeout with 1:53 on the clock, and call another after the next play to get the ball back with 1:40 or more so the offense (which has been moving the ball great) can get another score. 3rd and 17 from the Texans 32 and about 1:35 left. Brees dump off to Sproles who scrambles for 15 yards. This is when I got really irate. I was thinking, okay Kubiak, I understand: you want to run the 2 minute drill with a timeout, that's why you didn't use your 2nd timeout after the sack, but you'll use it now. But as the clock ticked, I grew more and more irate. "What the Hell!!!!!! You have 2 timeouts and 1:35 before half! Your team has dominated the 1st half, but now the Saints are going to kick a field goal and it's only a 6 pt game. They're going to go into the locker room feeling great, AND they get the ball first after halftime. WTF!!!!!" I turn to my buddy and say, "this makes no sense at all. The only reason not to call a timeout here is because Kubiak is not going to try to score again." And it was playing right into the Saints hands. Payton and Brees milk that 40 second clock until 1 before they call their timeout so that the Texans offense that had been shredding them for yardage all half long would have under 40 seconds (and 2 timeouts) to do damage. The sad reality is that Kubiak was not threat to run the 2 minute offense at all. He had already packed it in. For some reason, he was content to be super passive. The Texans could have had the ball back with 1:45 left in the half and no timeouts or 1:20 left and 1 timeout. But it wouldn't have mattered. Kubiak, as I learned then and see many repeating patterns of such pussification since then, was completely content with playing not to lose instead of having the guts to fight for every point available. I think Kubiak is a much better coach than Hue Jackson mainly because the Raiders are terribly undisciplined. I also think Payton is a better strategist and coach than Kubiak. Having the guts to fight for every point and take that chance and not be content...that doesn't necessarily make you a great coach, but it makes you a coach that I personally root for and believe in. It's a coach that I would fight for. His p***y conservative scared risk averse attitude before halftimes and on 4th downs (see Redskins game last year OT) is the biggest gripe I have with Kubiak. And it's real. This is a real problem. I do not know of too many super bowl coaches who are so risk averse as he is. I'll break down Pittsburgh and Oakland debacles later. But, now do you guys understand, at least with here? Payton and Brees were absolutely giddy that they went into the half only down 6 while being dominated by the Texans. They were scared as hell of that Texans offense getting another chance. But for some reason, Kubiak was even more scared of taking that chance.
I discredit the hire from Kubiak's standpoint because it wasn't his hire. His hires were unknown DCs who turned Capers' respectable defense into the laughing stock of the league. You know why he hired Frank Bush? Because his previous DC sucked and had a crappy defense. How can I respect someone who had a crappy DC, knew it was a problem, only to replace him with possibly the crappiest DC in NFL history? 5 years and that's all you can list? Seriously? Look at his list of busts, starting with thinking Okoye was a guy they can't pass up when Patrick Willis was on the board. And ending with Kareem Jackson as that "NFL Ready" corner. Given how many picks the Texans spent on defense, how much money they threw there, they still produced the 32nd ranked defense last year before Wade righted the ship. Green Bay has clear management system with a clear GM and a clear HC. In Houston, Kubiak is the de facto decision-maker of everything. If we had a real GM, I'd blame our defensive coaching problems on that GM. But since Kubiak calls all the shots here, then that's who I blame.
Could Andre's injury actually be a blessing in the skies? Guys like Jacoby, Dreesen, and Owen Daniels have gotten a lot more looks, increasing their confidence. Schaub has learned he has other good options. I feel a lot more confident in our other receivers after their performance the past few weeks. Plus, Andre will be fresh.
Honestly, Ive wondered the same thing recently... Its seems the passing game is too dependable on him... The throws Schaub makes to the supporting cast while AJ is gone, should be even more available when AJ's there... But I wouldnt dare say we dont need AJ
Winning Suber Bowls obviously means you are beating top teams and truly proving yourself. That's a far cry from beating scrubs and having a 1-2 record against the quality teams you've faced. Yes, you can only beat who is in front of you but we still don't know if the team has turned the corner or if we are just being opportunistic. I hope we've turned the corner. But surely you should be able to understand someone's fear of Kubiak getting extended based on what we are doing now, against a very easy schedule?
I don't understand the fear of extensions at all. Kubiak could be extended for 10 years. If he goes 0-16, he'll still be fired.
Icehouse, if you can't enjoy the recent play of the Texans then you should stop following football. You have been beaten down so much that you can't feel pleasure anymore. It's not worth it.
