But they're already offering a 50-50 split. Why would them offering a 50-50 split later as opposed to 47% affect anything if the union still won't take it?

The "hardliner hate current proposal and want 47%/flex cap" story is clearly an attempt at reverse psychology. The league wants the players to think "We hate harliners, harliners hate current proposal, so lets vote for current proposal to screw hardliners!" If the hardliners are really intending to blow up the current proposal, the last thing they do is to leak it to Chris Broussard and let the players know how worried they are about the approval of the current proposal. They should instead stay quiet and wait for the deal to blow up then jsut impose the 47%/flex cap like they say they want.

So if you believe the rhetoric you are the stupids.

Unless, that is, the hardliners leaked the info to convince the players that the league is running reverse psychology scheme to get them to accept the current proposal, thus causing the players to reject the current proposal. That would be clever, but reall rather...

Even if NBPA is ready to take the NBA's offer, they would never say so right now. Negotiate for 1 more day, ideally get more concessions

 

What I take away from this:

More games likely to be cancelled(although no one should be shocked or surprised by this.)

Hunter is calling the NBA's bluff and thinks a 50/50 split will be there after Wednesday.

There is no deal to be made right now and/or no deal is likely to come by tomorrow. They think it is a bad deal and they won't accept what they think is a bad deal.

And Hunter says Jordan should sell his team.
