pretty weird logic for you to come to that conclusion. I assume the rest of your post is equally poor in logic. didn't read. lol
You don't understand the importance of team culture do you? Players are often resistant to coaching change, and as far as we know a number of Rocket players, including Lowry, are upset to see RA leave. When you bring in an new set of coaching staff, players follow the captains. They follow guys like Chuck Hayes, they listen to guys like Chuck Hayes. What happens when you let Chuck Hayes walk? You get players fighting for a spot, and who is going to decide who starts? The new coach. How do you think the other players, all fighting for a spot, would feel if player X gets to start over them? The team culture is more important than anything, Chuck Hayes should be kept JUST for the sake of his leadership abilities, and to force players to earn a spot. There was no disconnection when Battier left because Budinger was our only 3 option. If Chuck Hayes leaves, we have a HUGE range of players available to take the starting spot. And whoever gets it, wouldn't have earned the spot. That itself, is a huge problem when you have a large set of young players.
Can't see a reason not to keep Chuck, unless its cap space related. Should never let players of value walk in free agency.
I understand it quite well actually, and Chuck being gone would allow players like Lowry to take over on his own. Look, I get it, everyone likes Chuck, he is a very nice guy, who plays hard night in and night out, we all want to root for the underdog, that is Chuck. However, I want a championship, not just to root for a bunch of underdogs....and IMO, we need to clear the decks of guys that are not pieces to that puzzle so we can find out if some on the bench ARE pieces of that puzzle. I concede that Chuck is a great example of a self made basketball player, a leader of men, but if Chuck Hayes is your leader, your team is going nowhere. We need a great player here that will lead, and Chuck is not it.... Clear the decks for the new generation with upside. Now, if the team wants to keep him, I will root for him......of course.....I just think Morey will let him go....or he will get offers from teams closer to competing for a ring now, and he will go. DD
I dont think chuck wants to go anywhere... he loves the rockets and i dont want him to go anywhere either. but i do think morey will entertain letting him go.. which would be a huge mistake imo
But Chuck Hayes is NOT an underdog. Chuck Hayes IS a vital piece to a championship team. Just like how teams go after Battier. It isn't about rooting for the underdog, I don't get why you need to segregate people's opinions into "if you root for him it's because you like him and he is an underdog". I want him on this team because I think he is vital to our players' development. D-Mo playing against him would easily help him adjust to NBA level physicality. If we can keep Chuck Hayes, we keep him. We don't let him walk. You're thinking that keeping Chuck Hayes will stun the growth of our players, I certainly don't think so, and history doesn't either. PPat was a third string PF, playing behind the likes of Scola, Hill, Hayes, Miller for the 4 and 5 spot. Yet he developed quite nicely didn't he?
I am cutting off here because we are in fundamentally different places, IMO, neither Chuck nor Shane are vital pieces to a championship team, they are bit role players sure, but not vital. We are just not going to agree here. DD
^^ Cool, now we can all get back to discussing the secret of Chucky Hayes!!! lol. So, everyone, remember this thread...I have $100 that says DD will bore us to tears this season repeating this ludicrous mantra "Hayes must go" "I think they will let him walk"... Now if I can just find someone who would actually take this bet? How about...when is the over/under on what day he will start a thread about it? I bet it will be a solid game by Hayes (does he have bad games) when Hayes locks down a star and Thabeet scores 5 points and gets 3 blocks in garbage time on a 20 pt blowout
Scola took Chuck's starting spot in less than half a season. Landry soon pushed him down to third string specialist. If these new kids can't earn their time ahead of him, that's on them. Right now, we don't even have a backup for Chuck, let alone someone that should supplant him. Either pick a real replacement for him or keep him. Don't let him go just to coddle a bunch of scrubs.
Hear me out Reeko.... Scola is a better scorer than chuck, undisputed. But starting 5 is about more than putting your best five scorers out there. It's about putting your best unit out there. I think chuck is a better all around player than scola. Not near the scorer, but higher b-ball iq, better rebounder, better passer out of the high post, and by far a superior defender. I say start chuck at the 4 to set the defensive tone. Lowry and Martin give you your scoring, as well as Bud. Chuck does the dirty work i.e. boards, defense, hustle, back door layups when people play off him. This is assuming that the hypothetical 5 that we sign has to be guarded. Now you come off the bench with scola and he is your go to guy, instead of rolling out a second unit of dragic, lee, TWill, Hayes, and Hill, and wondering why we can't score and keep blowing second quarter leads..... It's like the spurs with ginobili. Him coming off the bench doesn't mean he is a lesser player. Just a more strategic use of him. Kinda like Arian foster and Ben Tate. Two different styles but both on the field together is a waste. Keep one fresh, rotate, and change up the style/attack frequently.
A Championship team in DD's eyes: Brooks Martin Maggette Scola Thabeet off the bench: Spanoulis Wafer Budinger Patterson Jordan Hill
I woulda loved to see Barkley and Chuck go at it.. tho I believe Chuck would really shut Chuck down with the occassional prideful offensive outburst from Charles
