Nobody has ever questioned (or even given him much credit) for his ability to rebuild the O-line, and solidfy both the running game and the play-action passing scheme. Its a complete 180 from the Chris Palmer days. It was his decision making of who he chose as defensive coordinator (which many thought he was choosing no-names to solidfy his position as head coach). Now, he gets somebody proven, and wall-ah. There's also been questionable decisions about timeout management, challenges, etc... but none of those are as important as rebuilding/solidifying the offense... and then finally allowing somebody big to come in and do the same for the defense. If its working, might as well stick with it...
Here we go, again, railing about a future event that hasn't happened yet. Do you realize that you're getting upset at your own wild guesses and supposition? You have NO IDEA what a 12-4 season might manifest. It's an easier schedule - but they're going to play 8 games against teams that are currently .500 or better. It's not like the play Indianapolis every week. But sure - go ahead and get mad about something you've dreamed up in your head. Damn Kubiak to Hell for being 9-7/10-6 first round fodder in your imagination - what a LOSER! Fire him! And please, please, please - I'm begging you: stop this insanity surrounding 10-6 somehow being a disappointment. If he consistently wins 9-10 games/year for the next 4, did the first 10 years of losing REALLY spoil you so much you that you can't appreciate it? I would literally kill Groogux to have a team capable of consistently winning 9-10 games a year for 4 straight years if it means playoffs.
it also means pummelling the bad teams, which the Texans have done 3 games in a row...something they have NEVER done. mainly because the Texans WERE the bad team.
Yeah, and the only reason we even beat them is because we're playing better in all 3 phases of the game. BUT WHAT IF WE WEREN'T?????? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/a1Y73sPHKxw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Kubiak doesn't deserve the credit for this turnaround, but you can bet that Uncle Bob's ego doesn't see it that way, so we already know how the Chronicle is going to spin it.
To be clear...I'm not advocating firing the coach this morning. Just honest enough to say that I'd feel more comfortable with Cowher steering the ship than Kubiak.
I would too, but, the way the season is going, barring an epic meltdown, Kubiak's coming back. And he should. He's doing a great job this year. Head coaches don't get fired when they're doing a great job.
You all do know that Cowher has repeatedly said he has zero interest in coming back to coach in the NFL next year, right?
Let's take a look at the elite teams and see what they have done against teams with a winning record. GB 8-0 3 wins against winning teams NE 5-3 1 win BAL 6-2 4 wins PIT 6-3 1 win CIN 6-2 1 win NO 5-3 2 wins SF 7-1 1 win HOU 6-3 1 win So, besides BAL and GB I guess the rest of the league just beats up on a bunch of scrubs. Hey look! We're not one of the scrubs! You play who is on your schedule. If they are all bad teams, and you beat them that makes you a good team. Enjoy it.
Kubiak doesnt coach any differently than 5 years ago IMO...Playcallin is still questionable sometimes.... But thats what a good defense will do for you... Kudos to him , I guess, for waiting on the defense to catch up to the offense...
Hell, what if we win the Superbowl? Then stupid McNair is SURE to bring Kubiak back. Who does then? Who deserves credit for the historically great running game this year? Or the best O-line in the league? Toro?
to deserve credit, one has to have received it first right? when was the last time Kubiak ever received credit for anything?
Gary bashing when we're the top rushing offense, 3-0 in conference and due to one bad game we should be 7-2. We also lead the league in most points scored in the first half of games and have the most red zone trips.
And we're running the **** out of the ball. 2nd best running game in the NFL. Twice we've had 2 RB's with 100 yard games. That's historically good. Remember last year when everyone (myself included) was screaming for us to run the ball more? Some of you guys seriously need to turn the page on 2010.
Cool. And you think those instances (some of which didn’t make any sense to me, including one that occurred in a WIN) cost them games? That’s a stretch, IMO. There isn’t an either/or here; the choice is not sitting on a halftime lead or marching down the field and scoring points. A lot of things can happen in between and I’d argue the bad (ie things that really would cost you the game) far outweigh the good. In all three instances, he took a lead into halftime.
Probably because you led off with a silly logical fallacy bordering on superstition. Fact: 10 or so coaches have won multiple super bowls Fact: None of those coaches were born in May Fact: Bill Cowher was born in May Conclusion: Bill Cowher is unlikely to EVER win another super bowl because he was born in May.
And that doesn't count a total obliteration of a then 3-2 Tennessee team on the road that had previously beaten Baltimore. At year's end, that might not register as a quality win - but it sure as heck was at the time. The Texans do not have to apologize to anyone. For the first 10 years of their existence, the Colts averaged 12 wins a year, dipping below that number just twice in that span, which included two 14-win season and one 13-win season. We have earned a year off and everyone should be thrilled the team is taking advantage of it. They had a similiar break in 2009 with a remarkably easy schedule and blew it so don't for one second take this for granted. These Texans are doing things no other Texan team has ever done.
Yeah, based on his first 5 seasons, it's obvious Gary won't EVER amount to anything as a head coach. Best off firing him now cuz there's just NO WAY somebody this unsuccessful early in their career will turn it around. Signed, Tom Landry
Wait, wait... by "this turnaround" do you mean the one from last year to this? I assume you think it belongs to Phillips? He undoubtedly deserves a boatload of the credit but, uhm... who drafted/signed the majority of the players Phillips inherited? Antonio Smith, Brian Cushing, Mario Williams, Glover Quinn, DeMeco Ryans, Connor Barwin...... If you mean the one from 2005 to now, that's just silly. It took him too long and he cost himself, the franchise and fans two years by hiring Frank Bush - but he absolutely deserves credit for building this thing. The Texans have a team built to win for several years. It should have started in 2009 but... it will hopefully be worth the wait. It's bizarre to me how reluctant people are to give the guy *any* credit; more so how quick they are to retroactively paint his tenure as a failure. He absolutely has his shortcomings and I would absolutely argue it took him too long. But he inherited an awful team and rebuilt it competently and rather quickly. It unfortunately stalled during the ascension and then fell back last year. But to take a 2-14 team and be 8-8 in two years is impressive.
