I'm a little skeptical of bringing in a new coach and new system for a veteran team that is in win-now mode. We can't sit around for 2-3 years to see his system implemented. Plus I'm willing to see how him and the team perform should they make it to the playoffs. Maybe a light will finally click. If anything the team has been well prepared and ready to fight these last few weeks. And that's something that was rarely seen before this season.
Bill Cowher can predict major injuries and turnover disasters with the same accuracy as my pet monkey Tutu.
Bill Cowher here = superbowl Kubiak? Can't say that no matter how much talent we end up getting, Kubiak will end up screwing it up somehow.
The way he spits at you will inspire confidence on our defense. I could see us being a top 10 Defense under Cowher..oh..crap.... On his comments, he had always praised the offense in the past. Now that we have a defense, 12-4 is a possibility.
As you can see reading this thread (and this forum), plenty of people here are using this logic as ammunition against Kubiak. Never taken us to the playoffs, never won a "big" game, etc. etc. etc. Just thought I'd turn it around to show how meaningless it all is.
I'm pining! Can you imagine what this team would do with Cowher as the head coach? The only concern is he compatible with Wade Phillips because he is a keeper. I understand your concern about messing with success to this point, but what if the Texans lost most of their remaining games? What would you say then?
I'd wager roughly 6-3, first place in the division with a 3-0 record in the division. That's not my concern. I have no concern. I only wish that the team's fans could enjoy this more. I can't believe we're going to have this discussion in the middle of a 6-3 season that looks all the world like it will likely be a 10, 11 or 12-win season. In fact, I'm not even going to engage on the issue. Enjoy your make believe season with Bill Cowher.
Cowher would make a great HC here if Kubiak would step down to OC and Phillips stay the DC... Never happen though. DD
Yeah, it'd be great. And expensive. Sure-fire way to ensure the franchise becomes a perennial contender though. Fantasy world.
I am enjoying the season with Gary Kubiak, but I haven't enjoyed the previous ones. Cowher would be an upgrade, but right now you can't argue with success. Besides, if we go 12-4 McNair will make sure that Kubiak gets a lifetime extension.
I'll bite at this. Payton's New Orleans end of half clock management knowing that they'll get the ball back on the kick...momentum shift, wimpy conservative Texans end-of-half fear, going to half with multiple timeouts in pocket. Same thing happened vs Pittsburgh, but awesome special teams play bailed him out. Same thing happened vs Raiders when Kubiak wanted to run out the half-time clock with the ball at the 20yrd line, 1:09 left, 1st and 10 and 3 time outs left up 14-12. I called it before it was happening and said out loud "damn you Kubiak, do not sit on this 14-12 lead and run out the clock until halftime like you did vs New Orleans and Pittsburgh!" Well, that's exactly what he tried to do, because he's a p***y. Except, that time, after a 1st down gut play by Foster for 2 yards, Raiders coach forced his hand and called a timeout because they were going to try to get the ball back, because coach Hue Jackson has balls. I'm not saying Kubiak is a worse coach than Jackson, Tomlin, or Payton, but I am saying his balls shrink before halftime in close games. That's just turrible. Just my opinion. X's and O's wise, I think he's great, but his penchant for taking run-action big pass plays near midfield could lead to predictability problems against teams with good blitzing. I absolutely loved sticking to the smash mouth football of late. Overall, his offensive scheming is awesome (him or the OC...probably together). I've heard interviews from players of other teams saying the Texans are hard to prepare for because they show different offensive strengths each week.
Previous ONES? Plural?? Kubiak brought this team from 2-14 hell to respectability. We took a step back LAST YEAR. Some of you are acting like he hasn't succeeded AT ALL while he was here. He took over the most mismanaged team in the NFL, and brought them to the doorstep of the playoffs. I am by no means a Kubiak apologist, and was openly distraught by the fact that we retained him last year, but some of you are acting like he's the second coming of Josh McDaniels. We're 6-3, 3-0 in the division, 6-2 in the conference, and are able to have an actual lucid discussion about playoff seedings, and some of you are still talking about Bill Cowher??? Cowher knows NOTHING about offense. Gary Kubiak has forgotten more about offense than Cowher ever knew, which is why Cowher is so praise-worthy with this team's offensive output. The ZBS, the running attack, the play-action, the offensive line....all of the things you LOVE to watch on Sunday was brought here by Gary Kubiak. Let's enjoy this season while it's here. And I'm sorry, but to the guy that asked "What if we lose every game from here on out...."....if my uncle had boobs, he'd be my aunt. What kind of question is that to ask?? We've dominated 3 AFC opponents in a row, and have yet to look bad in a single game this season. Stop being so pessimistic, and enjoy this. We're Texans fans. We deserve this.
This is awesome logic Ok, I'll state for the record..I'd like our chances better with Bill Cowher than Gary Kubiak. I'm still super excited, and I'm very pleased with the progress this season.
So bring in what would be the most expensive coach on the market, who was defensive guy his whole career and keep the most expensive DC in the league as well. Sounds like overkill...
Just regular season wins, playoff appearances, playoff wins, Conference championships & Super Bowl appearances - not good enough for texans fans!
I'm glad for the success this season, but I wouldn't have shed a tear if Kubiak was fired during the off-season. I'm excited for the playoffs (and playoff wins). That's where I'll stand with Kubiak.
What's ironic is that I believe all but Ditka made the playoffs in their first 5 years with their 2nd teams. If not further like championship games and SB appearances. SB wins aside, proven coaches do tend to perform well at their new teams adjusted for talent. For example, short offseason this year aside, do we really believe Bill Cowher can't get this current Texans group to play 6-3 football? And that in the long term, Cowher cannot outperform Kubiak in terms of winning and/or playoff success?
