Instead of the NBAPA rejecting the offer outright, they should just send a counter-proposal. Since they are so close on BRI and some system issues i just think that a few counter-proposals by both sides will end up resolving this issue. I'm sure the NBA Owners might be willing to tweak a few things in order to get this deal done by Wed.

The hardline owners outnumber the big clubs - so the Union needs to take the deal.

But I really like the hardliners proposals, especially getting rid of guaranteed contracts.....

That is UBER appealing to anyone that understands how much better the games and season would be with motivated players.

Another great article by Zach Lowe of SI.com about one of the most insignificant issues that could potentially be the cause of the season being canceled.

    http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2011/11/07/sign-and-trade-rules-shouldnt-hold-up-a-deal/

Folks, this could be the issue that cancels the season.

Interesting to note that 2 of the 5 S&T that happened since the last CBA were done by 2 of the most hardline owners in the NBA.

Sarver (Hedo to the Suns) and Heisley (Marko Jaric to Grizzlies). Talk about being a hypocrite.

I have that feeling the players will HAVE to accept it on Wednesday, anybody with me or thinking the opposite?

The hard line owners are a joke. I hope they go bankrupt because of this lockout, which, unfortunately, won't happen.

Anyone who is on the side of Sarver, Gilbert and Heisley is a complete moron for supporting those incompetent owners.

They technically don't "have to" accept it.

I still say that some of the issues can be tweaked by Wednesday.

The S&T issue, for one, is a complete joke.

    Players want to PLAY.

LeBron isn't going to want to lose a season, Wade wont, Kobe wont, Garnett wont, Duncan wont, etc.

I think they get it done Wednesday.

There is a reason you are a rookie....

Just find a little patience, this will all work out, if the season is lost...big deal, go fly a kite, watch the NCAA's....they will eventually work it out....

Personally, I would rather this be worked out so the league is viable going forward - I don't care how long it takes.

So you are willing to go a whole season without watching the beloved Rockets for pointless issues, that in hindsight, won't affect you at all directly or indirectly?

    Bravo! Kudos to you sir!

There will never be parity in the NBA like there is in the NFL.

I don't care if the Owners get 100% of the BRI split or the players as well. As long as I get to watch the Rockets, I don't really care about all the other stuff.

You are wrong on so many points, it matters greatly.

This will get closer to parity and give your beloved Rockets a better than average chance of competing.

I want to watch the Rockets too, but I am willing to wait for the dust to settle and for the owners to set a course that gives our favorite team a great chance at success.

Did you not notice how Morey failed to even lure any big named free agent?

If the owners institute a system that stops the big market teams from being able to stockpile all the talent, it will force them to look at medium market teams that are well run, and that is the Rockets - in spades.

I understand the impatience, but there are greater forces at work here than missing a few games.

The players have been missing the boat the entire time, EVERY proposal they have made basically keeps the same system in place, and the owners have said that will not work.

The economy tanked, the values of some of these franchises went down, and they need to cut costs, that is how the world works.

The players have ZERO risk, they are free to go get a job elsewhere if they don't like it.

If they don't take this deal - I hope the owners crush them and get a hard cap, and get rid of guaranteed contracts.

THAT would truly make the game better....maybe not this year...but for the next 20 years....and that is worth it, IMO.

I was optimistic twice before and was dead wrong. I still have a hunch sense could prevail with the players but the Three Stooges might prevent it from happening.

My opinion on the labor dispute: The union has given enough back. No business in the world has a system that guarantees a profit

At some point, owners need to recognize they don't NEED to give Jerome James $30 million. Or Rashard Lewis $118 million.

    ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
There has to be culpability. Players have offered to give back $200 mill/year. This deal, or some close variation, should be one owners take

Chris Mannix is not a business owner - the small market teams are making a stand to stop from being trucked.

The last CBA was horrible for them.

Let's see what happens, but one must think a lot of players will want to take the deal and not lose a year of their careers, a year in which their earnings will NEVER be made up.

I'm in favor of a stiff luxury tax. Small markets should not be penalized because of where they play.

    ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
OKC, for example, should have every advantage to keep stars they were smarter than everyone else in drafting.

    ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
But a 52-48 split (in favor of the players) is fair. It just is. Get it done, and let's all get back to work.
