    credit to Remix when I saw this...http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...OTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-n=1
    The Steelers?, Ravens?...nope...The Texans are currently ranked the #1 overall defense in the NFL! ! ! - at least on yards given up per average

    Think back to last year and how very, very bad we were, no where to go but up,

    edit: this is based on yards given up per game, not points or any other measure but still a measure of where we are compared to where we were...

    Regardless, the question is still the same, can we maintain this, get worse or get better on defense?

    I have no f-ing clue why he did that. lol

    I think we can maintain a very high ranking for the simple fact that the rest of our schedule is so relatively easy.

    I heard that stat this morning and nearly fainted.

    I still take it with a grain of salt though. They have played some poor offensive teams lately but to their credit, they made those bad offensive teams look bad...which is exactly what a good defense does.

    Some of that #1 ranking is due to the great running game. The Texans are "only" tied for third on yards/play and well behind Baltimore, but with all the long drives, they are on defense for 5.25 fewer plays per game.

    On one hand, they've played 5 of their 9 games against bottom-10 scoring offenses this season vs 2 against top 10 offenses.

    On the other hand, of their remaining 7 games, 4 are against bottom-10 offenses and none are against top 10 offenses - so they should be able to continue it.

    Can't change who's on your schedule...so to the Texans' credit, they haven't played down to anyone (save the Raiders).

    Remaining on the schedule:

    @TB #15 ypg, #14 ppg
    BYE
    @Jax #32 ypg, #32 ppg
    Falcons #14 ypg, #15 ppg
    @CIN #22 ypg, #13 ppg
    Panthers #5 ypg, #16 ppg
    @IND #31 ypg, #30 ppg
    Titans #27 ypg, #23 ppg

    And let's hope the return of AJ helps the offense dominate TOP even more.

    We'll see how far we move up including yesterday's game, but Football Outsiders has us at #11 through week 8 (this is defense adjusted for situations and strenght of opponent).

    That's still pretty amazing considering last year's team. It's also amazing how having an offense that scores consistently and controls the ball can improve a defense. This was debated intensely last season, with others saying that the offense was "fine" because we'd put up 28 points and 300 yards in the 2nd half while doing almost nothing in the first half. You're much better off putting up those points spread over the game, even if your total yardage is lower (I haven't checked but I'm sure last years offense put up more yardage than this years at this point).

    Wade has them playin at such a high level ,that I could've sworn, I saw Kareem and J.David on the field together.... That right there tells me they are a force to be reckoned with... The Atlanta will tell me if they are a legitimate top 5 defense

    New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Oakland are all top 10 offenses and only NO played well against us, though the D had held its own through the first 3 quarters before cratering in the 4th.

    For our remaining schedule, Carolina is the only remaining team we play with a good offense. Atlanta and Tampa are middle of the pack teams offensively. Cincinnati is #22 and our division foes are bottom feeders.

    So it's entirely possible that we could finish #1 in total defense.

    NO and Oak were the only teams that were playing well at the time. Pitt was in shambles, but i still give the defense credit for doing what it was supposed to.

    I don't think the texans have the best defense in the league, but they have been playing awesome lately...even with the injuries.

    I hope they do finish the season statistically 1st for no other reason than it would make national media talk about the texans more.

    An absolutely amazing turnaround. Wade is for real; I think they will only get better. I love it; I still worry that the whole team will collapse into incompetence, but it is looking less likely with each game.

    They put up 400+ yards the two games before they played us and then again the game after they played us. They've been over 370 every game except for us and the first Ravens game. We're the only team to hold them under 300 yards.

    and how. upside-down world.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    So, about these bottom 10 offenses. If they had gotten league-average yards and points when playing the Texans, what would their ranking be? In other words, might the Texans defense be partly responsible for their turdesque offensive ranking?
