I've used a few browsers: Dolphin HD: Most feature-packed, but often at the expense of speed and I just don't find the experience to be the smoothest. Dolphin Mini: My current favorite, again. It basically cuts out all the unnecessary bloat in HD that you probably will never need. Smooth and fast, yet functional enough. Boat Browser: The fastest "regular" browser I've used. This thing flies. And its feature set is actually pretty good too. It would be my favorite easily if the autosuggest feature were just a little better refined, I think. Miren: Haven't used this one in a few months, but I remember enjoying it for a while until I found Dolphin Mini. Opera: The "fastest" of the browsers, but of course it cheats by routing your requests through an Opera server that pre-processes and compresses everything. Useful if you're trying to save bandwidth, perhaps. xScope: Meh. Firefox: Ugh. As a miscellaneous note, the new default browser on the MIUI ROM is absolutely fantastic. Everything you want in a browser. If/when I can find a way and time to install it on my (currently unrooted) Galaxy S II, I will.
agreed. It works amazingly well on my android phone... but even better on my touchpad. simply amazing
Agreed on the MIUI browser. It's really smooth and has nice page rendering. If you want I can extract it from system/app and try to sign it but I don't think it will work due to some framework issues.
If you have a Google TV device, definitely download the Google TV remote app. It is quite amazing for me to be able to control my TV, Cablebox, and Google TV all while not having to worry about where the remote is at. Since my phone is always on me .
The lack of a properly working VPN solution is driving me crazy. Also, I am missing Hulu Plus for my Galaxy Note.
VPN connectivity should be better with ICS 4.0, along with better Exchange support (Including Tasks/Notes) ICS 4.0 will also be Cisco Anyconnect VPN ready As for Hulu Plus, you might be able to find an .apk that works for you but I wasn't able to find a confirmed solution for the Galaxy Note on XDA
I don't publish any apps in the Android Market anymore due to non tech savvy people who don't follow directions and give apps bad ratings due to user error. I previously worked with the developers of "GTunes" to create that application but we frequently got it pulled from the market, and we would always have to open up different dev accounts because Google would consistently pull it. (If you want it PM me ) I also made an app for a crappy IT provider in Houston(Starts with an E and ends with an S ) that enables clients to create support tickets, call our live desk, attach pictures and scan service tags to enable them to provide faster support. Oh, and I've modified a Pandora 1.5.8 Android app to allow unlimited skipping , you can use BBS search for that or PM me. To be honest, I don't focus on one thing . I have lots of projects scattered out there and I am always looking for ideas so if you have one, let me know I've been thinking about developing an application similar to DeskSMS but instead of forwaring texts to your PC , I'd like it to forward to Google TV devices.
Scionxa, I hope I am not asking a repetitive question - I am not very tech-savvy - do you think it would be a bad idea to root my phone?
Luckily, the root method for your device seems to be fairly easy. I found this for you http://androidos.in/2011/11/samsung...ructions-cwm-recovery-available-how-to-do-it/ Unfortunately, there isn't much development for your device yet so there are no roms yet but rooting will enable you to do alot of neat things. http://lifehacker.com/5806135/the-10-best-android-apps-that-make-rooting-your-phone-worth-the-hassle I can think of alot more things WidgetLocker works great with root enabled . *Disclaimer* I'm not responsible for anything, and your warranty will probably be voided lol Happy flashing!
I know you asked Scionxa, but here's my take, only root if you need to do things root-specific, you can customize your phone to infinity even without root.
I totally agree. Download an alternative launcher (ADW EX, Launcher Pro, Zeam, GO Launcher) Download an alternative SMS app (GO SMS, Handcent, ChompSMS) Download an alternative Music Player (PowerAMP, SongBird, WinAMP, Zing) Download an alternative Browser (Opera, Dolphin Mini, Dolphin HD, Skyfire, etc) For Exchange e-mail, use Touchdown (If anyone wants to save money, I'll sell you a license key for $10 instead of the $20 price tag on the app) Oh and I use Appbrain to search the market more efficiently.
Rooting for me would mainly be for improved battery life, using it with 4G data speeds if I'm constantly on my phone it won't last even 8 hours.
so that's why all developers include "if you have a problem, please report it, do not downrate the app"
Which Chess app do most people use? I used chesspresso (lite, the free version). But I wonder if that is the most poular one.
Let me ask a question, maybe someone can help... I have a Galaxy S. Words with Friends always lets me know when it's my turn.. is there a way to turn that off? I hate getting the dang notice at 4am when I'm sleeping.
oops sorry, was thinking this was an app, but I'll leave the story anyway Boob tube: Google signs up 24/7 p*rn November 9, 2011 - 9:33AM Vivid is bringing p*rn to Google TV. The Los Angeles adult entertainment company launched its Vivid for Google TV channel on Monday as "the first TV app designed to make sexually explicit content available through the new Google TV set-top device". Apple, one of Google's biggest rivals, has had a long standing policy of not allowing adult content on products such as its Apple TV, iTunes or the App Store for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. However, Apple has made an exception for Playboy. Until this point, Google hasn't had any adult channels on Google TV though users can surf anything on the web through Google TV's built-in web browser. Google launched its service to bring the web to TV screens in the United States last year and its then chief executive, Eric Schmidt, said it would debut globally this year. Steven Hirsch, Vivid's co-founder and co-chairman, said in a statement that the new Google TV channel is "a central part of our making Vivid available everywhere concept, which gives fans unified access to our content through their personal computers, mobile devices, tablets, television sets and DVD players". Vivid's streaming channel will broadcast, in high definition "award-winning adult movies, celebrity sex tapes, XXX parodies of popular superheroes, educational videos and other content", to those ages 18 and older who also subscribe to the company's website. Hirsch also noted that Vivid is looking to bring similar content to other internet TV platforms, although he didn't name others. "We spent more than a year developing a code base for a robust, stand-alone internet-TV channel with a friendly interface for the consumer that can be used with the current Google TV technology and other internet protocol presentation methods now in development," he said. Google TV has had a tough time catching on with consumers since its launch more than a year ago, and the online search giant is looking to reboot its efforts with a new platform based on its hugely successful Android operating system for phones and tablets. A Google spokesman had this to say regarding sexually explicit video on Google TV: "We will respect the parental controls of devices connected to Google TV. So if you have controls set up through your set-top box or through a V-Chip, those controls will continue to work for TV content shown through Google TV. Users will also be able to implement Safe Search on the Google TV browser (Chrome), and the Safe Search setting will extend to internet content shown in Google TV search results. In addition, users will have the ability to lock out access to the browser on Google TV through a 4-digit PIN code for access control." LA Times and Fairfax Media
