Fisher: "Not sure" why the two sides would meet before Wednesday, given what Fisher calls Stern's "ultimatum."

You've got 50/50 BRI split, guaranteed contracts, version of midlevel exception. This is all more than what I thought players would get.

Beyond absurd if only S&T kills deal. Guess opt-out Wayne Embry & I created for John Battle is gone? I'm cool with that. lol

The offers are only going to get worse from here on out. Players need to accept or they're done

LOL. Is this guy serious? Intimidated? Good lord this is hilarious.

I remain optimistic that they will strike a deal eventually. You can't read too much into rhetorics.

I agree. Their jackass of a lawyer is a afraid of seeming to be intimidated.

I'm glad pride is not being taken into account while negotiating.

Give them the specific proposal so NBPA has option to present to members ASAP. If Union refuses to do as in late 99, than it's over!

Players are saying that owners deal is 50-50 split, not 51-49.

Several agents believed bad turn today in talks would get them player support they need for decertification. They're polling players now.

Kessler went off on #NBA once again. Called league's 51-49 band "a fraud" bc little chance to get to 51. Said union won't be strongarmed.

Petition to VOTE on decertification -- presumably coming SOON from disgruntled players -- does NOT mean NBA season is automatically lost

Sources close to decert movement believe NBA's hard-line stance will soften during 45 days sides can keep talking before actual decert vote

I dont see how this deal isnt fair. A 50/50 rev split. And while the system changes do cut off some the richer teams from the player market that is a good thing for parity.

It is really disturbing how enitled the players seem. The y are after all "owned" by the owners how is a even split not fair. And from what i can tell the system is becoming more fair and honestly it looks like the player are pissed they wont be able to form superteams anymore ....

And yes i do think it is primarily all about the money for the Owners but at the same time they bear all of the financial risk... the players have litterally none.... As has been discussed before the NBA is the only major sport to have fully guaranteed contract ... which i think if the Union decerts , the owners should get rid of except in the rarest of cases ... i think partially guaranteed is fine.

Basically i think the players have to take the deal and i dont think the deal is really that bad for them .... The group of players pushing for decert are either dumb or just dont care ( or want to piss off everyone ) ..

And i dont think fisher has the right to hold back a vote from the players ... the only reason he hasnt presented it is because he knows it will pass... he is just being selfish...

I was wrong, the players are way dumber than I ever imagined. If this is true, I hope the owners utterly destroy them.

Big difference between finding 130 players to sign petition to VOTE on decert and finding some 230 players to vote FOR decert 45 days later

Solid tactic. Wait longer so you can get a worse deal. We're clearly underestimating the intelligence of the players here.

It's so comical to me right now that I'm starting to believe Stern has somehow brain washed the players into being this dumb so he can get the owners a better CBA.

I hadnt read that before i posted... wow ... you and I agree ... at this point the players are just being dumb and i really hope public opinion turns against them if this happens.

ITS A EVEN SPLIT ... my God what is wrong with some people that they feel like they deserve so much... sure the players are the ones drawing in the fans but without the NBA where would they be playing ?? The NBA made these guys who they are and they turn around and bite the hand that feeds them when the owners try to cut back a little bit.

Maybe its all for the best though.... If the players decert and public opinion turns maybe basketball becomes a less star oriented game ( wishfull thinking on my part ) and you have a more team oriented game where you dont have 2 or 3 players grouping up and really just throwing away competitive balance.... i dont mind the stars , but they have all ( mostly ) become so entitled and wanting to play only with each other it has made me sick ... oh well rant over .. I really do want the season to happen but if the hardliners on the players side to come to ... then it wont plain and simple.

Let me say this: I have a hard time believing Stern and the owners are willing to blow up the season on November 9th.

Starting process of decert does not have to mean end of NBA season. Will have a column up tomorrow night discussing the issues

Stern's trying to convince players that's the case, but as one union official said: "We will have 'moments of truth' well past Wednesday."

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Thanks to glorious Twitter, I suspect that we'll hear plenty of players weigh in on NBA's proposal whether union puts it up for vote or not

Forecast: 130 players needed for petition to VOTE on decert will materialize. THEN clock really starts. 45 days from there to save season

i think i said this a long time ago but it has seemed like all along that derek fisher decided he was going to be the tough guy who stood up to the owners and could get anything he wanted for the union. that his success as a role player had made him a little too big for his britches. he and hunter seem more concerned with being able to claim some victory than actually doing what the union members want. maybe i'm way off and reading too much into some of these tweets (some from the players themselves), but it seems like the union members want a season and would take some version of the owners deal. and maybe fisher thinks he's just playing the role of president like he should be and that he's saving them from themselves by not giving in, but i get the feeling too much pride is involved.

"the night of the negotiation, you may feel a slight sting. that's pride ****ing with you. **** pride. pride only hurts. it never helps."

the sooner the players realize that, the sooner they can get back to making millions. they said they'd never go below 52.5% and here they are a few days later offering 51%. we know you know you lost the BRI stalemate. and now the owners are even giving you a chance (i'm sure it's a crappy chance) to actually even get 51%. the 50/50 offer gave you a 0% chance at getting 51%. take whatever this small chance is. you got guaranteed contracts, you got a salary cap at the same level, you got no rollbacks, you're getting a 50/50 offer, you got the mle to mostly stay around, you got a still soft cap. you done pretty good. stern is trying to be nice, mostly because i think he basically likes the nba (it's his baby) and wants to give a somewhat fair offer so y'all will accept it and there will be a season, and give you a deal while he can still hold the hard-line faction back. don't let the levees break. listen to the nhl players. it won't be worth it.
