Interesting to hear what players have to say. They better take this offer by Wednesday, it's not like the owners didn't make any concessions.

Well in 1999 the lockout ended when Stern issued an ultimatum. Hope it's the case this time.

Under owner's offer: Taxpaying teams can give out mid-level exceptions of $2.5M per year for two seasons

Stern asked for confidence level deal would be accepted by Wed, said, "I'm tired."

Stern: "They wanted a mid-level that was regular mid-level for tax payers every other year, wanted sign and trade for taxpayers..."

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Stern said Kessler offered other options to consider. "They wanted mid-level that was regular mid-level every other year ..."

Once again, Stern has taken complete control of labor talks. With sense union is crumbling, he gives dropdead, take-it-or-leave it offer.

New offer would give taxpayers a mid-level exception worth $2.5M per year for two years. However, no sign-and-trades for taxpaying teams.

This is what you call incremental progress. Deal is there.

The way thing have gone I beleive this would be a healthy system for the league. Players, it's time to suck it up, ok? No armageddon please.

It's a good deal, why the Union didn't accept it was beyond me.

It was perfectly reasonable, can't wait to hear what Hunter and Fisher have to say.

    I hope so too.

I mean, the mediator's supposed to be impartial, and the owners' side pretty much accepted his whole compromise.

The players are being stubborn and rejecting it right now, but hopefully they'll come to their senses by Wednesday...

I thought they meant 51 for the players? Not sure.

We can hate the players for not accepting this deal, but they've got until Wednesday to wring out whatever more they can. It honestly looks like the best offer they'll get, but a lot of people thought that about 50/50 and no MLE for tax paying teams. If they don't accept the deal, though, they deserve to lose the entire season.

    1. I dislike David Stern as commissioner and think he's stayed on too long.

    2. But I like the remarks from him I'm seeing here. The only way to get the union to agree to anything is to paint them into a corner. Wednesday evening, we will know if an NBA season will happen. If the union doesn't accept and the season gets canceled, I hope the harshest measures the owners wanted from the beginning get implemented next summer.

Anybody still think the players should "hold out" for a better deal?

BRI would be 49-51 band. If revenues are as expected, players get 59. If better, 51. If worse, 49.
