Guess it depends on if David Ash is better than Gilbert and can handle the pressure of being the starting qb for UT.
And Ash has? 0 TDs and 3 INTs as a starter. I would trust Gilbert to throw it more than Ash and at this point. Oh and the sacks every other time he throws. Ugh. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I see these smaller schools with better QBs by results than us. Those guys don't have world class arm strength, but they have accuracy and make quick decisions.
Did it trouble you that as a true freshman, he was on par in the pre-season depth chart with Gilbert who was a junior? It's clear that Gilbert has had a bad time at Texas. It doesn't mean he won't ever thrive in a different system. He had over a year to prove himself, and it was the worst season in the past 10+ years for Texas. Ash has been decent as a true freshman starter. He is also a mobile QB, which is a huge advantage in the college game. Yes, he's not great throwing the ball, but he hasn't played much and hopefully he will improve his accuracy and reads.
No I didn't want Gilbert either. McCoy seems the best to win this season, but we need someone better than all 3. Ash isn't going to cut it.
This is a building year. New coaches on all fronts. We weren't going to win anything big, especially now with two losses, albeit to top 6 teams. Ash has better upside than Case, and it's clear that we are building for next year. Case will be a manageable backup QB, but he isn't the starter for the future.
I believe we should be looking to win every game by using the best players for that game. We have the recruits every year to reload instead of rebuild. We may still win 10 games this year, but it won't be because of quarterback play. The only game you can count for the quarterbacks is BYU after Gilbert got yanked.
Yeah I shouldn't be b****ing so much . Just think the results aren't going to be much different despite skillset differences (Ash vs Gilbert). Running game and defense in beast mode is the difference between this season and last.
It is nice to field the best you can every time, but I think it's better to give the young players the ability to grow and gain experience under this brand new system, so that we will be a great cohesive team for years to come.
How the hell did this Tech team beat OU in Norman? Man, the Sooners must have put purple drank in their gatorade that day.
The team is still young whether you are starting a redshirt freshman or a true freshman at QB. If you think it should be all about the young players then why is Fozzy playing at all? Of course, he has done a whole lot for us this year, so we might have 1 or 2 more losses without him. Would you be ok with that?
We have featured 2 backs every game. Malcolm Brown is first on the depth chart, but he's out with turf toe. Fozzy is 2nd, and Bergeron only proved himself last game in the 2nd half doing relief work for Brown and Fozzy. Even though Fozzy is a senior, he hasn't had much playing time at all due to injuries and Mack probably feels like he deserves some after all he's done, particularly for his draft stock. Mack is extremely loyal to those with seniority, considering he gave Gilbert 2 games before finally pulling him. As far as the future goes with our RB situation, I feel Bergeron will still be the 3rd string back considering Johnathan Gray has committed to UT. He and Brown, two 5-star backs, will be a great tandem in the backfield with Bergeron backing them up as the 3rd string, or maybe even converting to FB taking over for Cody Johnson when he graduates. It's been a great game to watch UT play. I think they should let Ash throw some more now that we have a comfortable lead. Allow him to read the defense and make the throws that we'll need him to make.
Good points. Hopefully they do allow Ash to throw more. Needs to show if he has what it takes instead of being Mr. Hand Off.
I love how they know we're going to run it, but they still can't stop us. It goes to show how dominate our running game has become.
