Disclaimer: Do not read this if you are eating or have a weak stomach. So, I think I might have picked up E. Coli or Salmonella during my trip in the Dominican Republic. About three or four days into my trip, I started getting stomach cramps when I ate, and at irregular intervals. I'd have to get to the bathroom fairly quick. No diarrhea, but in general, loose, "fuzzy" looking poop. This continued throughout the rest of my trip, and in, general for about a week and 2 days now. I had one poop a couple days ago that was covered in mucous. I did a "fit test" on the Insanity DVD set (Today was my first day of the 60 day program), and then ate lunch. I had to run to the bathroom. I had the most explosive diarrhea I've ever had. It was dark, but not a GI bleed dark. My stomach is still gurgling, but not cramping. I plan on seeing my doctor at work this weekend. I saw him earlier in the week, and should have said something, but my symptoms were occurring at less frequent intervals, so I didn't. Sorry for the bluntness of this thread. It's probably one of the most disgusting poop threads I've read. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this type of thing? Clutch, please delete if necessary.
DRINK LYSOL DISINFECTANT! It says on the bottle that it kills e.Coli Spoiler I kid, man. Get well soon. Don't wipe too often... just pat, pat, pat dry. WUSS.
Do you have any pics of the poop? Even the most renowned gastroenterologist won't be able to diagnose you with anything unless you show them pictures and samples of your feces. If you don't have the certified bottle just put it in a sealed plastic bag and place it in the freezer until your visit to the GE. You should probably label it or your wife might think it's a pastry. Be sure to get a sample of the vilest diarrhea you can muster, because the intestines are a long, twisting, tricky object and aren't as consistent as you would like them to be. I wish you the best.
You likely have traveler's diarrhea, or ETEC, a strain of E. coli. Not having blood is a good sign, a really really good sign. Drink lots of Gatorade (which has the same salt content as diarrhea). Your doctor might give you some antibiotics, but you're likely to recover on your own (better, because antibiotics in your GI make you susceptible to bacterial imbalances that manifest into greater problems). If you look closer, and do see blood, you might have a more serious problem: shigella, salmonella, EHEC--a hospital visit is a must.
No blood is part of the reason why I haven't told my doctor (I work with him at least once a week). Also, whatever I have, will probably require me to recover on my own. I am not one that's big into antibiotics, especially considering I've had basically lifelong ear infections, and was on antibiotics all the time as a kid. So far, like I said, it's dark, but not nearly as dark as GI bleed poo. I've seen plenty of that. Looks like black bean soup, lol.
I just re-read your post that you have "dark" diarrhea. How dark are we talking? If it's black, and really gross smelling, it's dried blood, and you have a problem.
Gotcha. Definitely see your doc. It doesn't sound like bloody diarrhea. Good luck man. Send me a message if you need anything.
I had something similar one time...sounds like you are almost over it. You just have to pass this one last strange looking poo... Spoiler
I ate some pre-cut passionfruit on a couple days. My wife did not. I have a feeling this could be where I picked it up. I'm thinking it probably is just a case of TD.
