By social liberal, sort of I meant that I am pro-labor, pro-environment, in favor of public health care, compassionate welfare where really needed, assistance for the truly disabled, etc. On the other hand I am pro-life with exceptions and feel that the "gay" issue is misplaced as a national debate. Personally, civil unions make sense, but people's sexual behavior is largely their own private business. Interesting isn't it, labels don't really fit most of us.
I don't want to paint you as having the same thoughts on those issues. Just same in the fact I'm also socially liberal and conservatively fiscal, my apologies.
I'm a liberal Democrat, and I disagree with other liberals and Democrats often enough. What unites many of us is the absolute belief that the Republican Party has been captured by a radical minority with the collusion of Corporate America. That makes me like most liberals and liberal Democrats, in my opinion. I considered myself an Independent voter until the mid-'70's, but since I almost always voted Democratic, it seemed silly not to be a part of the party.
Irrelevant. Whatever your ideals may be, the majority of them will fall under one of these sides. As for myself; I'm a liberal.
This is true, Many Republicans here on this bbs call Obama extreme liberal when in fact he is moderate liberal. What happened is not that Democrat positions have shifted but the Republican positions have shifted to the extreme right.
It sure doesn't feel that way because I piss off both my liberal and conservative friends. I think most people have a single ideology and should belong to one party. Its the "what's in it for me?" party.
This shows how narrow-minded you are, believing that everything fits into a nice dichotomy where everyone must favor one side or the other.
depends who you ask. to a lot of my friends i'm an absolute liberal freak. they think something is wrong with me for voting D ever. this is particularly true amongst people i grew up with. to others, i'm more moderate, i think. i don't know if anyone who knows me would say i'm a conservative at this point. if i had to label myself, i'd say moderate. i think the GOP has shifted so far right it would make Reagan blush. i've voted D and R at different times; but I don't feel like I have much choice right now.
yep. and i differ with that guy on other issues. this is why i have a difficult time labelling myself...because i can't go all in as one or the other.
It's not that hard. You are ok with the death foreign progressivism, just not domestic progressivism.
