How's Siri working out for you guys who have bought the Iphone 4S? I think i might wait till Iphone 5 comes out .
Apparently the servers are overloaded because I've been unable to use it since Saturday. It was pretty cool when I first got it Friday and it worked tho. I don't see me using it all the time but it's definitely useful for quick things. Things I would personally would use it for: - Walking Downtown at lunchtime and can't find the restaurant someone told me to go. Instead of stop walking, pulling up browser or the map application and then typing it in... I could just walk and talk to Siri. - I was at Best Buy the other day and they were out of game I wanted. I wanted to know where next closest Best Buy was. I could quickly find that out. Granted it would have only saved me 20 seconds of typing but I still like it. - Reminders for myself. Many times I think of something but am too lazy to open up Notes and actually typing it in. Now I can do the old 'Note to self... stop being lazy.'
how well does the 4s mic cancel out background noise from a load environmental like a downtown sidewalk?
Not sure, though Downtown Houston is nothing like like NYC in terms of crowd and noise. Though when I was trying to use Siri and my son kept trying to talk to it too, it would pick him up and then the command would be messed up. So I can definitely see that as being an issue. If somehow they could improve the software that it could distinguish between voices, without having to train it for just one specific voice, that would be great.
It couldn't even hear me over a movie playing on the TV in the living room at moderate volume and people in the kitchen chattering. It kept telling me it couldn't understand me. I ran to the bedroom and it worked much better.
Anyone got the Sprint version? How are the download speeds? Just saw a 45 page thread on the Sprint forums regarding slow data speeds http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/78766?start=0&tstart=0
partner still hasn't gotten this thing (16gb on att). went to the galleria on friday and there were only about 20 folks in line, but worker said that there would be a 30-45 minute wait. we skedaddled. i just don't understand, but i guess that folks don't understand why i bought a backup hp veer after hp already announced the discontinuation of their webos hardware. siri commercial spoof from earlier in the thread is super badarse, btw.
I have the Sprint version and have been running lots of side by side tests with friends with IPhone 3's and 4s on AT&T and Verizon all around Austin. Sprint consistently gets me about 0.2-0.4 Mbps download speeds; Verizon seems to be around 0.5-0.7. AT&T is consistently over 1.2. The best I've done in probably 30-40 tests is once getting 0.60. Many people say Sprint's Android phones have slowed down this past week too, but Sprint insists their network is working fine. I'm giving them another week to figure it out and then returning it (15 day return policy).
Sprint, Apple said to be cooking up iPhone 4S 3G speed fix http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-2...said-to-be-cooking-up-iphone-4s-3g-speed-fix/
http://www.pcworld.com/article/242849/apples_siri_speaks_also_on_iphone_4_ipod_touch_4g.html The end of Siri's exclusivity on the iPhone 4S may be near. No, I'm not talking about Siri running on the purported Apple television set, but Siri on jailbroken iPhone 4 and -- possibly -- 3GS handsets. Ireland-based hacker Steve Troughton-Smith and his San Francisco-based comrade Grant Paul (no relation to the author) over the weekend claimed they got Apple's voice-enabled digital assistant functioning properly on an iPhone 4 and a fourth generation iPod Touch. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/p8GLwG4_qBY?rel=0&hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Are there any hardware differences between the iPhone 4s you get from Sprint/Verizon/ATT? Could the ATT 4s work on the Verizon network somewhere down the road if i switch carriers?
