I'm conservatively liberal. I'm very conservative fiscally and very liberal socially. I'm essentially the opposite of a neo-con.
I use to be an independent but since the Tea Party I feel that I am more closely aligned with progressives. I think there is a balance point but that point has been called "extreme" and socialist by the right wing forcing me to oppose that. Although I don't agree with the left on many issues, I think there at least a greater willingness to compromise and be rational from that side.
If I had to label myself, it would be as a neoconservative with for better or for worse, a dash of fascism. Voted conservative on the poll.
If I'm hanging out with Libs in the NE, I'm some kind of quaint throwback. If I'm hanging with Cons in TX I'm a raging Marxist.
15 years ago I may have been considered a moderate, but by today's standards I'd say that I'm quite liberal. It's funny that people in this thread are so shifty about identifying themselves as one or the other. I'm guessing a lot of that comes from not wanting to be associated with politicians and pundits on either side, which is understandable.
Same boat. I don't think if you're rich you should payer a higher % in taxes, I don't think financial aid or unemployment should be a long running staple. 5 maybe 6 months at most for unemployment benefits. I don't want hard working people's taxes going to tax benefits for jobless women who have 7 kids. On the other hand I am 100% pro choice and will never vote for anyone who doesn't support gay marriage. Recreational drugs such as mar1juana should be legalized and taxed.
IDK anymore. Gay Marriage? Whatever floats your boat. Abortion? Murder Universal Healthcare? Not optimal, but necessary Education? Shouldn't be a topic at the federal level National Defense? Should be cut back. You can only kill everyone in the world so many times. Taxes? Lower rates, fewer deductions. I'd vote for Ron Paul. I will not vote for Obama or Cain.
My parents came here on student visas, went to public universities, worked in education, healthcare and energy industries, had a violent and combative but well ligitated divorce; and I'm rocking two FHA loans and two student loans (all of which are current). I don't know how all that's possible without big state, tax-and-spend liberalism. I also believe state vs. individual is a false dichotomy, small, local groups of individuals can more oppressive with far more frequency and intimacy and alot less accountability than a federal institution.
Neither. Definitely libertarian. Same goes for all these folks who want fiscal responsibility and the government to stay out of their social affairs. They just don't know it.
