I work for a fortune 50 company and get pretty good insurance benefits. It is enrollment time of the year and my insurance cost for a family of 4 has gone up to 700 dollars a month for medical, dental and vision. That is just my contribution. How does the average family afford this?

175 a person? That's a lot less than what I pay. I'm around 265/mo, but I have to buy my own insurance.

That is what I pay, but it is as a company owner.

Your company seems like it is passing 100% of it's cost to the employee.

Not really a benefit at all.

My coverage is pretty good. No deductible, no copays, small out of pocket. I could save money if I went with a deductible with a higher maximum out of pocket.

Wait...I thought ObamaCare was going to reduce costs?

Oh...I guess that's not the way to look at it.

Just imagine how much HIGHER costs would be if ObamaCare WASN'T passed.

It does provide that we self insured do at least have access to something. Because even if the insurance is expensive, it's nothing compared to the costs of retail (non-negotiated) health services charges.

you should have not eaten dinner and worked harder - there are 24 hours in a day. If you are only working 8 or 10, you must be a leech on the rich. You should have made your kids work too to contribute to insurance. Why do you sit there and buy bread and milk when you could instead eat raman noodles????

    That's insanely high.

I work for a f-500 company and pay about $240/month for medical, dental, and vision for me and my twin boys. Wife is on her own insurance.

It's pricey, but much less expensive than if my wife's insurance would have covered the boys. And ironically, she works for a school district.

    LOL

It's awesome that all the liberals jumped on this thread as a "nobody can afford insurance" cry train. Look at this guy's insurance. No wonder it costs so much money if everything is basically paid at 100%.

How can families afford to pay $700 a month for a plan that covers all of their medical expenses completely? They can't! Most people get normal insurance plans that have copays, deductibles, cost sharing elements, etc.

this year I pay 400 a month for a family of 3, that is the premier plan. no out of pocket.

700 is too much. if it comes to that i'd rther keep the money and put it on piggy bank.

healthcare in this country is sick.

I think you just answered your own question: your insurance is expensive because you chose an expensive insurance plan.

My monthly health insurance payment just went up 35%. That is after my employer pays $16000 a year already. Health care cost is going to kill this country soon enough.

But it only cost a little of 500 last year. It has gone up over 25 percent.

I just got back from our benefits meeting. Buy-up would cost me roughly $300/month for me and wife and kids, $30 copay, $150 deductible, 100% coverage, $2k(?) max out-of-pocket. Something like that. Went up 5% from last year. I pay 19% of the total plan's cost. That seems doable to me.

I have to pay 25 percent for hospital stays and medical tests up to about 6K. So its not like it covers everything and I'm sure my company pays around 60-75 percent of the cost.
