I am not the one saying he does it, I am saying there is no proof that he does..... If there is...I will back off the comments.... An elite QB will come to the line of scrimmage, recognize the defense and audible to something that takes advantage of the gaps in the current defensive setup. Is that something you see Matt doing? I don't. At the end of the day, I don't like Matt, I think he is a flawed, average, slow footed QB......who is prone to stupid mistakes at the worst possible time. Does that mean he sucks? Nope, but it means I am unsatisfied with mediocrity...or what I perceive as such. I don't put an ounce of credence into what his fans are saying, I know what I see out there...... It is cool if you see something different, I am cool with that.....I can live with others having a different opinion, I am even ok with being severely in the minority on the opinion side of things..... If someone has a convincing argument otherwise, I will weigh it....but for the most part, people just take shots, and that causes further entrenchment. It is what it is ! DD
Schaub is allowed to audible. What that audible play is is irrelevant. if Kubiak dictates how the offense should be run, it's not an indictment of Schaub's abilities to read the defense which is what you are accusing him of being unable to do.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb Well, Football Outsiders sure likes him. Ranked #4 in their "value above replacement" formula. WELL outside of the top 3, and not terribly separated from #7...but it looks awfully fair to me. Haven't seen if they've got a stat in there on audibles at the line.
For what it's worth, Schaub has the highest QB rating since 2007 in games decided by 8 points or less: http://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/afc-notes-week-5.pdf
that's what we've been saying the entire time. Kubiak does not allow freestyle audibles. Schaub goes to the line and there are a predetermined set of plays he can audible to. It's still an audible, just on a limited basis. the definition of audible...http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/audible so you knew he audibled, but yet you've spend the last several pages arguing that he doesn't. hmm...
That is just where the argument has gone...there are tons of reasons he is not elite. 1. Slow as **** 2. Bad coordination 3. Prone to throwing balls at his receivers feet 4. Prone to turnovers because of low pocket presence 5. Rag arm 6. Doesn't audible 7. Lacks leadership qualities Just to name some... DD
Why is that bizarre? There are statistics in most (if not every sport) as to how players perform in close games.
Hey, easy with the language! my four year old might log on to the clutchfans! I think one thing that is not being mentioned enough in here is how having a Brees or Brady won't even guarantee you of beating a walking dead Seattle Team in the playoffs. It's a team game. We have a Team now, like an actual defense that can defend! And an offense that can score with the best, when they are all healthy. An offense that Schaub is a leader of, according to players and coaches.
If that is all your are looking at I guess, but why would you throw out games of more than 8 points? Because those games all started at 0-0..... Anyway.....I am not a popular guy with my Schaub criticism.... Still want the Texans to win....just want a better QB. DD
Nobody said he was elite. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino 3 QBs who were/are statues in the pocket. Are they elite? I agree, he is poorly coordinated. So was Kurt Warner in his prime. I really couldn't tell you whether other elite POCKET qbs are better coordinated. So let's just give you this one. Give me a link that proves he is more prone to throwing passes at a receiver's feet than elite QBs. Again, give me a link that proves he is more prone to turnovers because of low pocket presence than other elite QBs? LOL. I won't argue about arm strength. A lie. Give me a link that proves he doesn't have leadership qualities. Most of your reasons he isn't elite (which nobody here has argued he is) are either unfounded, lies or you didn't provide a link to prove your unsubstantiated opinion.
