As you may all know I'm a huge movie buff. I've just about seen all the movies that are widely known and have good ratings. At this point of my movie watching "career", I'm all about finding hidden gems. I have realized I have a certain taste that I prefer when it comes to movies, such as I HATE the utilization of shaky cameras in movies. I've taken a liking to movies with "slow and drawn out" scenes, like in the movies: Inglorious Basterds, Taxi Driver, There Will Be Blood, Eyes Wide Shut. If anyone knows a movie similar to these movies, it would be much appreciated.

Also, foreign movies are also welcome here. I recently watched "La Haine" which is in the vain of those movies I mentioned above. That movie had some of the best camera work I've ever seen. It lacked story but made up for it with the ending. I think I actually would prefer you guys suggest foreign movies, since I think I've pretty much seen most Hollywood films.

    Thank you Clutchfans!

Have you seen the Danielle-Day Lewis film --

    "Unbearable Lightness of Being"

A recent foreign film I like that I don't recall getting much US distribution, except special showings:

    Let the Right One In

Maybe you could list foreign films from the past 20yrs you've seen off this list , and we could suggest what you haven't seen.

When I lived in Houston, I watched as many foreign films as possible. Not
so many when I moved to Vegas and now in Lima, nothing.

    Some of my favorites:

    Ridicule - French
    Aimee & Jaguar - German
    9 Queens - Argentina
Burnt by the Sun - Russia
Our Lady of Assassins - Colombia
    The Official Story - Argentina
    Us, Me, Them
Bossa Nova and any Brasilian movie

The Seventh Continent is very good but you might not enjoy it since you didn't like White Ribbon, same director.

Run Lola Run is a personal foreign favorite, also check out some Fellini films start with 8 1/2.

some more foreign films off the top of my head:

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (new, 2011, by the director of Let the Right One In)
    Delicatessen
    The Queen of Hearts
    Eat, Drink, Man, Woman
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (you really haven't seen that)
    The Counterfeiters
Monsoon Wedding (My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a poor copycat, imo)
    Breaker Morant

Have you seen many Wiim Wender's films? I'd say Wings of Desire fits your "Slow and Drawn Out" scenes kick.

That's because you watched it with the wrong subtitles:grin:

i'd recommend los olvidados, just watched it yesterday. I see why so many people loved it. i'd give a 9.7. Rotten tomatoes has it scored high also. Although, i bet you've already seen it.

Liked Amelie and Run Lola Run. Monsoon Wedding was a good one too, although not sure it fits the cinematic style you're looking for.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring got good reviews, although I haven't been able to find time to sit down and watch it.

I liked "I Saw the Devil." Incredibly intense revenge flick...the South Koreans do it right. Has actors from Oldboy and The Good, The Bad, and the Wierd.

    El Mariachi
    Y Tu Mamá También
    ????

I was about to recommend "Let the Right One In" but that was in the subsequent posts. It had awesome cinematography, scenery, acting, etc. I just picked it because U-Vers's On-Demand said it was Swedish... had no idea it was the original "Let Me In." Good movie.

I thought Like Water for Chocolate was from Alfonso Arau, GRENDAL?

Sure, heypartner. Como Agua Para Chocolate is good. So is Amores Perros and Cuban Strawberry and Chocolate... the story about two homosexual dudes with different political views.

I was going to name ALL the Mexican movies that I know gringos like... but I don't think peeps have enough time to read that list.

Yes, and Arau is Mexican. It's definitely a Mexican movie based on the novel of the same name by a Mexican female novelist.

3 Colors Triolgy (Blue, White and Red) and the Double Life of Veronique by Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski are 4 of my fave foreign films. Masterful camera work!

I know El Guapo directed Como Agua Para Chocolate, I was simply mentioning some other Spanish films from fellow Mexican director Guillermo del Toro since the OP mentioned Pan's Labyrinth.....
