I know a lot of those people too. They don't understand that they're crushing their metabolism with that strategy.

10 hours is probably pushing it for the regular joe, kind of like how your 600 calories before bed is a little excessive for the normal person too. It's just the way I've adapted my eating schedule, my last meal of the day will usually take place about 5 hours before bed, and it will be a nice portion of lean meat with a bunch of leafy greens. It keeps me full for a LONG time.

I guess I should also note that I'm kind of in endurance athlete mode right now too. I'm not lifting, doing a lot of cardio, etc. So that has definitely put a different spin on my strategy. When I start my lifting cycle again, I'll probably start eating a lot more like you do :)

My mom owns a weight loss clinic and actually has recently treated my best friend's dad. He goes to bed around 11 and she advised him not to eat after 6pm (5 hours). Otherwise, for a healthy diet she says 2-3 hours before bed, and after reading some of these posts it seems like you guys are arguing about the time frame. Just relaying what I'm hearing.

Like the point DannyMost raised, it's a case by case situation. I'm trying to gain weight, if anything, so food right before bed isn't an issue.

I do believe, though, that you can maintain a healthy diet working with either extreme. There are many factors at hand. I subscribe to the eating every 2-3 hours view, including as well I can during sleep hours, even if it is just a glass of milk when I wake up.

The view that the metabolism slows down considerably at night is a myth. It might slow down a touch but not significantly. Thus, I don't look at it too much differently than any other time of the day as far as eating goes. Again, this is where goals come in to play. My way is right for me. Other ways are right for others.

You wake up every two to three hours to drink a glass of milk?

Cottage cheese. Great source of protein. You can throw some peaches or grapes on top. I also like it with cherry tomatoes and celery.

No. When I wake up in the middle of the night to urinate, usually once, I drink a glass of milk. No big deal. It helps me sleep.
