Or how about, going back to '10, a couple of end-of-game TDs that were a result of Schaub extending the play and heaving perfect strikes? (Washington and Kansas City.)

I'm not dogging Matt, I'm just saying that rez is overstating the Schaub noodle-arm effect.

There are a good handful of times where AJ has tipped a ball and cost Schaub an INT...this isnt about that, its about Schaub's long ball. Ive seen plenty of play action passes to AJ for 40+ yards...and I dont remember the last time AJ didnt have to slow down for the ball. With a 5 yard clearance from the defender, Im guessing those could be TDs.

Schaub's long ball is not a good one, sorry.

And I'm taking it a step further by saying that if people want to hold against Schaub these hypothetical, potential touchdowns he has cost the team, we should give him credit for the hypothetical, potential touchdowns he has lost because of his receivers, fullbacks, halfbacks, etc. being stupid.

depends what you mean by good. He doesnt have the cannon arm obviously, but up to 50 yards he can put the ball in a spot to be caught pretty accurately. That's pretty god in my book.

He does have the tendency to undershoot AJ at times and there have been times where AJ slowing up probably cost him a TD.

That being said, I'd still say Matt throws a good deep ball (he gets the completions after all at a high %), he just doesn't have that huge arm to be "great"

Of course, those under throws are typically off slow developing bootlegs and to AJ at a full sprint. I do find it interesting that a lot of his deep throws since AJ's departure have been over throws.

I agree with you if we were talking about TD passes only. In general, Schaub has gotten ****ed plenty of times by dropped passes or tipped balls.

In regards to the long ball only, he just fails to hit AJ in stride.

I agree. Schaub's strength isnt his cannon arm, its his soft touch/placement. That accuracy has been what makes him a good passer. People seem to assume that Im thinking Schaub sucks. Every QB not named Rodgers, Brees, or Brady has more than a couple issues. With Schaub, he doesnt fire a rocket and he isnt mobile at all...but he has a great touch and he is a conservative, low mistake type of QB.

Unless we are getting an elite QB to replace Matt, Im not interested in a change.

Im also hoping that those overthrows to KW and JJ will turn to perfect throws to AJ when he returns.

They've connected on 19 40+-yard passes; six have gone for TDs. Of the 13 that haven't, five were 50+ - without having the highlights at the ready, I would readily accept that those five were probably underthrows and potential TDs as I assume Schaub isn't airing it out 50+ yards.

So you're talking potentially (+/- a couple) five TDs since 2008.

I guarantee you that there are least 20 QBs with 5 50+ passes to their #1 receiver since 2008 and that all of them were touchdown passes. (rolleyes.jpg)

This year he is 5-3, so I assume you consider him a top 5 QB this season since wins are all that matters. Overall, he is under .500, but I am concerned with how good he is this year. The past won't win or lose them any games this season.

I was going to say a joke, but jeez looking at the numbers (2010) he was horrible throwing 20+ yards only completed 30.23%

His throws sure look pretty when they go incomplete though

He's definitely no Matt Schaub for sure.

    Why Ric?

I'm interested in the case you can make for Flacco vs Schaub.

Prior to this year, comparable stats and 3.5 years younger. He's also been incredibly durable and has many of the same qualities as Schaub - big, lumbering guy with limited mobility. He's talented enough to likely thrive in this system. And he has a better arm.

I'll always trade for younger, given comparable skillsets.
