So the only guy to lead his team to a 4th quarter win yesterday was Joe Flacco?? But I guess it doesn't really count since it's the lowly Cardinals.
I dont get the hate on Matt. Should we put this team in the hands of a rookie, make a trade for a washed up QB (Palmer, McNabb)? That is really the only option. Teams dont trade star QBs. Jay Cutler was traded but his career accomplishments are on par with Matts. Maybe we can sign the next QB that goes to and then gets released from prision. What is your alternative? You try to diminish him by comparing him to Brady, Manning and Brees. Give me a break. Not ever team can have a super star QB and just because you do, doesnt mean your a shoe in for the Super Bowl.
i think he is a smart player, i think he just needs to be coached properly. Kubes needs to hold him accountable and challenge him to be a better over all leader and qb. I would say he as a leader needs to challenge his line and be more vocal to his receivers, they are in it together and they need to realize he is the leader to carry them without AJ.
Imo, Matt has great accuracy and generally makes the right decisions. He's just gotta learn to stay cool under pressure & step up in the clutch. I agree it'd be nice if he were a more vocal leader but maybe its just not in his personality.
Also, he needs to know when to run. I know he is slow as hell, but if he got a little bit mobile it would make huge difference. At one point we were on 2nd and 33 or something like that.
That was because of an offensive facemask call and a sack. Not sure what that has to do with Matt not running.
I don't know if he cusses out people individually, but he has yelled and cussed and showed emotion at his offense in general after missing big opportunities. If you watch "Turning Point" which has access to the game film (b/c it's produced by NFL Films), the Texans have been featured 2 or 3 times this year and they show Schaub doing that. We just don't see that side of him from the regular CBS Sunday production.
I was speaking in general terms, nothing to do with the actual plays that occurred it was just an example of him getting sacked, I like Schaub a lot more than most people do. I rather have him over a lot of QB's. I'm not saying he needs to be a Mike Vick or Cam Newton, but he needs to be a little bit more mobile, we can all agree on this.
He's pretty decent at avoiding pressure by changing his protection, stepping into the pocket, etc. But when the pressure is there, there's basically a 0% chance he sheds it. That's pretty much the extent of his escapability and athleticism. I don't mind so much as long as he stays healthy and holds onto the ball. Least athletic QB in the NFL? Quite possibly Schaub. Especially since Manning is out. I'll still take him over most of the other guys though.
Meh, I don't care about the mobility because he can make decisions and get rid of the ball quickly enough.
Random thought: I think people who get annoyed at Schaub's shortcomings only watch ESPN highlights and never entire games of other NFL teams. I don't watch a lot of non-Texans games. But whenever I do, my general feeling is that "man I'm glad we have a real QB instead of this guy". If people watch more full games of random teams playing each other, they'd probably find Schaub more bearable than most.
Good point. There really are a lot of terrible QBs out there. I'm also a Redskins fan so I get this. The thing is, this draft supposedly has 5+ legit NFL QB's. I think Schaub is solidly in the 2nd tier now (arguably a top 10 guy), but as guys like Cam Newton and Matty Ice get better, and as Luck and Barkley and Dalton develop, does Schaub get pushed back? That's just something to think about down the line when we get to the Schaub crossroads of getting too old. There's no huge problem now having an at least better-than-average QB.
Dalton has really been impressive. He does have a very good defense going for him, but he doesn't have a stellar running game and his best wideout is a rookie as well.
It seems the average qb's are the rookies. Outside of the elite 3, there's guys that are either under-performing (Rivers, Flacco, Ryan), or they're over-performing (Fitzpatrick, Smith, Eli). This season has been so up and down, that I can't point out the average qb. Looking at each QB individually you can say "he's above/below average" but I can't think of one that actually is, either because of how they're performing compared to their expected quality or they're rookies. I guess if you pay enough attention to these games, it's much harder to say who's average since there's always some footnotes to bear in mind to excuse their current ranking. Cutler has nobody to throw to, and he's getting sacked too much because of Martz. Dalton has a strong defense to lean on and an rb to keep teams honest. Cassel was hurt and lost his OC. Rivers sucks in the RZ without Gates. Tavaris is much better with the hurryup. Bradford doesn't have wr's that actually receive. Romo forces bad throws even with a 17 pt lead. Schaub's deep ball relies on the play action. Tebow's a playground qb. There's too much context that's ignored by just using the label "average." If I had to guess, I'd say Dalton or Smith is playing average football. Game managers that are called on to make 1-2 plays a game. But they're also winning, so it's easy to say they're above. I guess Bill Simmons' take on Schaub really got me thinking.
I don't know why Matt Ryan gets more love than Schaub. His career stats are clearly below Schaub's, and he's having an off- year this year too.
mainly because Ryan's been to the playoffs. playoffs equals "great". i'm willing to bet there are a good number of people who think Mark Sanchez is better than Schaub for that same reason.
