Since we are at the half, and halfway is halfway there...some interesting developments seem to be likely by season's end. What would surprise you the most considering everything? Here is my list of what could reasonably happen now that we know half the season is played...
    By season's end
    1. Our defense will be a top 5 overall defense.
btw, I won't mention a possible 11 or 10 win season or even playoffs because a lot of us expected that quite honestly. It is either that or run away and don't look back, But to be currently #3 overall at the halfway point.- (according to Ric's thread), and you can't figure that to really go away or trend worse in the next 8 games. Nobody saw going from #30 overall to top 5. Nobody...

    2. Brian Cushing re-gains the great performance and effort that he showed his rookie season to become team's MVP on defense.
a lot of us wished we could have a do-over this past summer for the other guy, and kinda gave up Cush could ever get back to playing the way he showed but I can't imagine saying that now, obvious return to the pro-bowl very likely.

    3. Arian Foster ends up with over 1350 yards rushing with 12 TD
Normally not a surprise, but considering missing nearly 3 games and not being completely ready in at least two, a surprise he will come somewhat close to last year's production and may be in the top 5 overall for rushing yardage - maybe another pro bowl?

any other projections that may be reasonable that you find surprising? Schaub with a 50 yard rushing game? ;)

I actually think their win total has the potential to be surprising. I would have guessed 9-10 wins this summer; they could get to 11+ at this point. In fact, had they beaten Oakland, we'd be looking at 12+. There's not a team left on their schedule that they can't beat.

There is no team in the NFL they can't beat when healthy.

Any loss from here on out will most likely be an upset. It is hard to win 10 straight, though, so I do expect a loss or two.

One year the Oilers started 1-4, then won 11 straight only to lose to Joe Montana and the Cheifs in the playoffs at home, after being up 10-0 at halftime.

There's no team in the NFL that can't beat another NFL team on any given day. Yes, the rest of our schedule appears to be all very winnable games. The Texans don't need to approach any game like it will be handed to them on a silver platter. Ideally,I want to see them win by being prepared and executing like they should. I am extremely pleased with our defense and if our offense can be consistent then I see many good things ahead.

Definitely agree but that won't be the case this year unfortunately. I also have a bad feeling we will see a few more injuries this last half of the season.

I don't know why, but I just find the delivery of this hilarious haha.

On another note, we, as fans, should be disappointed with a record less than 11-5. Defense seems to be improving and we'll be getting Andre back, so our offense will look more fluid. Only thing that might hold us back is injuries but let's hope the football gods spare us the rest of the season.

This team has one winning season among nine; let's not get cocky. All that really matters is winning the division. I won't care if it's with a 9-7 record (hell, I'll take 8-8; I don't care) and NO ONE should care if it's with a 10-6 record. Stop resetting the bar so they can fail. A 10-6 record is perfectly acceptable.

Not getting cocky but let's also stop making excuses for this team. We SHOULD be at least 11-5 (give or take a win/loss). I'm not expecting it, given that we haven't proven that we have a winning mentality, like you mentioned. But look at the Lions and Bills, those 2 teams have been about as bad as we have the past 10 yrs. This season, they're eating teams alive. There's no excuse for us not to be able to do what they'll likely end up doing by the end of the season.

And yes, record shouldn't matter if we make the playoffs. That mentality, however, is similar to people who are satisfied with being mediocre (much like our head coach ).

We should absolutely be disappointed with 9-7 or 8-8, even it means winning the division.

Why? Record doesn't matter. Are we going to care that we're 8-8 if we make it to the championship game?

I've given the caveat that if we advance in the playoffs you obviously have to keep Kubiak no matter the record. I don't know that it really should be that way, but I accept that you aren't going to fire a coach who advances you in the playoffs for the first time in team history.

But yes, absolutely 100% if they go 8-8 or 9-7, make the playoffs and get bounced in the first game, I'd fire Kubiak. Record does matter. I won't say the coaching staff and FO has finally succeeded if they make the playoffs by virtue of all the the other teams in the division cratering out.

their schedule looks favorable but iirc we do this every year and every year it's dissapointment. Any team can beat any team. Did anyone expect the saints to lose? Not counting chicken's this year until all the eggs are smashed.

If they win 10 straight, somebody's definitely winning an award. Ideally there'd be a SB trophy on top of that, but definitely individual accolades.

From that perspective, I agree. I was speaking more generally - my only standard is making the playoffs; I don't care how they get there or what the fallout might be once they do get there.

(Having said that, I'll be stunned - absolutely stunned - if they win fewer than 10 games... assuming there's not a Titanic-sized meltdown coming.)
