replay rules are clear, there is no guessing. sometimes kubes hopes the challenge will work. when you're hoping then even you realize the video evidence is not clear. knowing the rules, only an idiot would challenge. also your (and kubes staff) logic is flawed. when you are trying to overturn a call, you must have CONCLUSIVE evidence to overturn. close calls are not conclusive, thus you keep your challenge/timeout in both of those instances. they should have learned by now it has to be pretty damn obvious for the ref to change the call. the video replay for both calls was far from obvious.
I had my sister-in-law in town and was half-watching - the Walter catch looked legit: why was that overturned? The Tate fumble was pretty doggone obvious; I understand his wanting to challenge it, and maybe having a 14-point lead was enough of a cushion for him that he didn't think that TO would be needed later - but if the Jags come back and tie it, that would have been costly. Did the same thing - was it against Oakland? The Dressen drop?
2nd foot toe tap was barely on the chalk. Tough to see in detail in time before challenging...I thought that was was worth it
Hmmm.. interesting. I had the sound down - was it considered pretty conclusive? I saw 3 replays and two looked for all the world like he got the toe down; the other looked like he was way out.
I love the run-action plays, and he tends to go for big plays near mid-field which have worked but have also led to big misses. I think scheme wise, the Texans are top notch, and that's only by watching the NFL Films produced "Turning Point" and the brief game tape shown on "NFL Matchup." My biggest gripe with Kubiak is that he has been a p***y this year before half-time. Hopefully, that has stopped for good. He has on many occasions gone into half-time sitting on a lead in a close game with 1-minute+ on the clock and timeouts in his pocket. It happened vs New Orleans when Payton made him his mental b****. It happened vs Pittsburg when Tomlin made him his b****. Pitt was never going for it on 4th and 1 when they needed points on the board. Now it just happened to work out that the FG was blocked, but that's beside the point. Lastly, Kubiak was about to shut it down vs Oakland too before halftime, but their coach quickly called timeout after an inside hand-off by Houston that was simply meant to run the clock out. This forced Kubiak to change his plan and his lack of aggression from the beginning of that possession bit him in the ass. Fortunately, he was aggressive vs the Ravens (even though it did no good) and he was aggressive before halftime vs the Jags too (with a missed FG to show). I hope this is the trend that will continue. He cannot sit on 1 score leads or ties or even 2 score leads. If there is 1 minute or more on the clock and timeouts left, he must be aggressive if the Texans have the ball in okay position (20 yrd line or more). Giving up that opportunity to score before half is ridiculously too conservative.
The Walter catch really could have gone either way. I think you have to challenge a play like that. If for nothing else, just to show your player you believe in him. Assuming it's not an obvious outcome, which I don't think that one was, you have to roll the dice. I don't remember what quarter that was in (I was dealing with crying babies again), but there are worse things than losing a timeout. You're probably right on the Tate fumble. That one was pretty obvious after seeing the replay just once. Probably shouldn't have challenged that one.
Second drive of the game. I think it's a wasted challenge regardless. IIRC, it was still outside the redzone so it's not like 7 was guaranteed. And you waste a challenge and a TO. Not devestating in the first half but....
so if Rivers doesnt fumble the ball, and the chargers win, san diego out coaches the chiefs coach, but since chiefs won, its the other way around?
Nice stats. 2011 so far. Playoff tickets will be sold. 40.0 winning percentage against winning teams. 72.7 winning percentage Money per win Billichek>Money per win Kubiak 80.0 home winning percentage Finish 1st in Division Very low draft pick Best Defense 1 game trail by 14 or more. 0 game trail by 21 or more
I am officially no longer worried. I am officially on the Kubiak bandwagon This game showed he had guts and brass ones Maybe the near death experience [getting fired] . . . changed him but it his decision making has improved maybe more willing to take calculated risks or maybe having Wade and defense has given him more confidence. Kubaik is looking like a completely different coach to me. BTW - Yates is making Leinart look obsolete. Rocket River
I don't think he would have went for it on 4th down if Schuab was in the game is that weird? Rocket River
Definitely, he knows now he can lean on his defense. Compared to last years debacle, where we were all offense and no defense.
Major props to Kubiak for having some balls today: I'm not even sure going for that forth down was the right call or not haha, but who cares. It felt like a move that was a statement more than anything. Also loved the fact that he didn't get too conservative with Yates as I was fearing. None of that **** we saw in the second half of the Jaguar game. Without a doubt, though, Kubiak has improved but bringing in Wade has made an absolute world of difference. It's absolutely stunning the impact that has had.
I think it just took a while for Kubiak's system to be fully implemented. Was it fair to expect him to turn around a 2-14 team so quickly? Teams need to give head coaches a little more time. Agree on Yates. Looks better than Leinart ever did.
