I could see that.....and would not have an issue with folks saying he was above average, to me he is just in that gray area between average and above average. But, nowhere near elite, or clutch. DD
I imagine 5 million Cowboy fans would take Schaub this morning. Probably the fans of about twenty other teams, as well.
Yep, he's clearly Top 10 and moving higher. -Tied for 5th in TD's. -5th in QB Rating -9th in yards/attempt -10th in yards/game All this with missing Andre a significant amount of time. And the Texans are winning. And watching the struggles of guys like Romo, Vick, and Flacco makes me appreciate Schaub's consistency.
So in the space of a few posts, you have called him "average", "above average" and "between average and above average". Based on QB rating, he is 7th in the NFL. Only 4 QBs have more wins than him. How do you know he doesn't lead or inspire? Do you have knowledge of this or is it just your 'feeling'?
With the weapons Matt has and the best defense in Texans history (not saying much, but it is pretty dam good this year) all Matt has to do is be average, not loose games. Average can win you a super bowl, ask Giants fans who won with Eli Manning.
And he's actually not throwing the ball as well as he did in the past 2 seasons. If the texans had this defense for the prior 2 years they would have made the playoffs. It also would have dispelled the popular, and short sighted belief, that Schaub can't play clutch because the defense would have prevented those responding scoring drives by the opponents after schaub led the team to take a lead.
But I added a smilie face.... You were having that debate with yourself - tha vast majority of us don't think he's elite and there's no such thing as Clutch. But he has, far more often than not, been very god in "close and late" situations, which has been proven. By science.
LOL - by science my ass.....by meaningless statistics, a good number of which were compiled as the Texans were losing by a lot and against prevent defenses. Matt "back foot" Schaub, is what he is...an average to above average QB, who has very little pocket presence, is prone to crucial mistakes, and needs very good players around him to win in the NFL. He doesn't make players better, they make him better. DD
LOL you haven't "won" anything. That's ridiculous - you are revising/changing history to suit your argument. No one ever has called Schaub an elite QB. Anyway, the Vince Young debacle prohibits any of your opinions on QB's to be valid.
There is no connection between Vince and Matt, they are seperate arguements and yes, people were calling Matt Elite a couple of years ago. Do not try to ruin my victory dance...here..... DD
No, DD - there are scores and scores of games where Schaub has put his team in position to win/tie games late; you're just choosing to stick your fingers in your ear, stomp your feet and shout "NANANANANANANANANA!!!!" as loud as possible to avoid having to confront them. It's not up for debate. He's been far more often good than bad in those situations. What QB *doesn't* need good players around him? Show me the elite QB taking a team of undrafted scrubs to the Super Bowl. That is a non-starter for me.
DD, although you are over-the-top with your Schaub hate, I like how you're not backing down... Im proud!!!... You're the complete opposite of when I first joined.. What you have to realize is there isnt any suitable replacements as of now... Though I do wonder how Garrard would look with this offense ...
I am not backing down because I am right, as usual.....with the exception of when I am wrong...lol.... I agree there are no suitable replacements, but the fact that the organization has not been serious about finding one is really discouraging, you have a mediocre coach, that is satisfied with a mediocre QB... What does that generally lead to? Being Mediocre. Strive for greatness, don't settle... DD
Why does it have to be scrubs, there are plenty of cases of QB's elevating their teams. There are a lot fewer game managers that win big in the playoffs than there are elite QBs.... DD
Thanks Donkey, I do know football better than all the casual fans that are arguing with me here. Of course I played the game and coached it, so I can see how folks that simply know it from a 42" plasma screen don't get the full breadth of the game and what I am seeing out there. Not all of us are created equal, and it is up to me to impart my wisdom onto the football serfs of the world, such as yourself, in the hopes that some day, you will understand the subtleties that mean the difference between winning and losing at the NFL level. As a teacher, and educator in this thread, I know it may take time for stubborn students to make that leap to complete understanding, but I will continue to strive to help them get there. DD
Brady and Manning are obvious king-makers. While they might not get to the Superbowl with a band of misfits every year, everybody knows they can turn water into wine and have been doing so for years. (Not that I'm upset that Schaub can't do this, nor do I expect him to... that would make me DaDelusional).
True, those are two that are leaders of men......hopefully the organization can begin the hunt for a true leader at the QB position, as this one will ultimately hurt them against quality competition. DD
There are 3 QBs playing this season, that elevate there teams. Brees, Brady and Rodgers, and all 3 of those teams have receivers for days. Jacoby Jones would be the 4th wideout on all 3 of those teams if not the 5th. Outside of those 3 every QB has question marks and you could say is average. I guess we should have drafted a QB early in the draft, for some reason we've been wasting picks on the o-line and our superb defense the past 4 years.
