Seems good, but for complete games of your favorite sport, if you have DVR you can record them, and its live so it comes first on the TV. but it seems like a good idea for previous games and tv shows that already been aired.
My computer/32" VGA monitor does this pretty damn well. Spoiler HAHA GOOGLE I DON'T NEED YOU THIS TIME!
Google is aware others have had the idea of integrating Internet and TV. But, as usual with Google, they are doing it in an open fashion. Here was their keynote speech on Google TV if you're interested in the high-level differences between this and what's already out there: <object style="height: 344px; width: 425px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ASZbArr7vdI"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ASZbArr7vdI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></object>
I don't see anything wildly revolutionary about this. I mean, I get to search for tv shows? Woo! I know it goes a bit more complex than that, but it just sounds like an evolutionary step in the search feature more than anything all that revolutionary. Hopefully it has a longer life than all the other things Google has "released" that end up still-born and die on the vine.
Google TV 2.0 with Honeycomb 3.1 comes out in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping with the Market will have the honeycomb sunday ticket app so I can watch football through Google TV. http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/google-tv-take-2-arrives-next-week-with-honeycomb-android-marke/
I doubt google can make a dent with tivo owners. And I doubt that tivo is going to sit back and allow this to happen either.
I think it's gonna take a while for Google TV. It's another one of their evolving beta products that might gain traction in the future. This update will keep them in the game.
I seriously cannot wait for a la carte tv to get here. And internet/tv integration is shamefully behind the times.
Why do you think this will ever happen? The teleco's own the pipes. They want the squeeze the consumer as hard as they can. With government regulations as they are I wouldn't be surprised at some point when you type google.com you end up at bing because bing pays them more.
Love everything except the price point. $100 is the magic number for any media device. Get your box at or near that price, and folks will be clamoring get one. Happened with VCRs, DVD players, and Blu-Rays. Has to happen with the Boxee box. Oh, and the form factor. I know it's clever and distinctive, but it doesn't fit well in standard media cabinets and entertainment centers.
I personally like Boxee, but now that Honeycomb & the Android market will come included on Google TV , that makes me want to go purchase one. Using your phone as a remote is cool. You can do it in Boxee too and other nice media center type of programs like XBMC
I love mine. Purchased it almost 3 months ago and never looked back. I use it everyday when I'm watching TV. If I don't have a sports game with cable provider, I'm easily able to go on first row and find a stream and then just full screen it on Google TV's browser. With the addition of the Market on here, I can only assume it'll get even better. ESPN3 doesn't work, at least not for me. I think it's because the flash player on the current Google TV version is old. With this update, I'm sure they will update the flash player (if not, you can always do it through the Market which will be added) and it will work. Sunday Ticket also doesn't work with the browser because it requires a higher version of Flash. But yeah, 90% of flash works... just not the updated Flash sites.
How is the streaming quality? First row sports stream is generally terrible. Does this google.tv fix that? I can't imagine watching first row sports on a big screen with the lack of a quality stream.
Well, no Google TV won't fix the stream quality, it works just as normal browser on your computer would. That's your job to find a good stream. Some look better than others but yeah, if it doesn't look good on your computer full screened, then it won't look good on there either. I know a few places that have decent quality streams sometimes. You're right though, a lot of them are generally terrible on first row. There are a few other sites to try when looking for streams, wiziwig and veetle have some decent streams. Justin TV usually has good quality streams but they don't usually have NFL games.
