I believe FOX is willing to keep the same terms only while they negotiate the new deal. DirecTV is saying no, because they want to put pressure on FOX to negotiate a lower price. It only really works if people blame FOX instead of DirecTV though, so I don't know that it's a brilliant strategy.

As a general rule as a consumer, you probably always want the cable/satellite provider to win out in these disputes because they are always the ones trying to pay less - which ultimately means you pay less.

I especially liked how DirecTV bought advertising during the World Series, flying a blimp literally over the Fox network broadcast. Joe Buck read the promo (at least in Games 6 & 7), on Fox, "Every true sports fan gets DirecTV. For details on switching over, contact DirecTV at..."

Meanwhile, on FX Thursday, the disheveled looking star/lead writer on Always Sunny comes on and, hostage video-like, bemoans DirecTV shutting off the power.

My favorite was during Always Sunny, there was one news ticker that came onscreen, blaming Fox, leading to that SaveOurNetworks website, added by DirecTV. Then, before that even finished, Fox had another chyron scrolling across leading to their propaganda website, blaming DirecTV.

High theater (until I miss my first Always Sunny episode--then it gets serious).

Don't worry. Someone will answer soon, and our minds will be eased.

Directv just posted this facebook message.

"We have reached an agreement with Fox Networks to continue carrying all Fox Networks (including FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, SPEED, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes), Fox’s regional sports networks, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), the FOX local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. We know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming."

Yay, my bill is going up

It's just the way it goes. Fox says they want a 40% increase when they really want something like 10 to 20%.

I like quality programming. I cheer for the good stations and against the bad. But..I have Hulu.
